Take with a sack of salt those stats and website. Its a notoriously anti-gun organisation and statistic twister.

Most of it's references are dead and not updated.

Also several pieces of utter crap from a quick read:

"With the exception of temporary firearm imports for visiting hunters and sport shooters, only registered firearm dealers are licensed to import firearms"

Not true in the slightest, anyone with a licence can get an import/export permit.

"Ireland does not manufacture firearms" also untrue, just not on a large scale.

"Responding to a backlash of legal and public opinion, the Irish government invoked the Criminal Justice Act 2006, mainly to limit the private ownership of readily concealable handguns" - Oh come on! Biased as you can get and not the reason for the grandfathering at all! "Readily concealable" implies you could still get handguns which were not, which you obviously cannot.

Just reading the site makes it's agenda plainly obvious, anti propaganda and spin all over.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

S.I. No. 187/1972 - Firearms (Temporary Custody) Order - Firearms seized

S.I. No. 21/2008 - Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 - Firearm types restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 - 2023 Firearm Ban (retroactive to 8 years prior)

Its also the source for the "illegal" guns number the DoJ/AGS have used from time to time (IIRC). The number of 150,000 is compeltely made up and was arrived at by use of a formula based on other countries which also use a guesstimate based on actual licensed/legal firearms.

IOW its purely made up and puts Ireland's gun ownership rate at 9.1% when the figure is closer to 4.4% assuming each gun is held by a single person, but wwith the actual true number being 3% based on people licensed, not guns licensed.
