Madness, especially when you consider how the salaries of most of the staff are at Civil Service clerical levels.

I remember the interview with Mike Murphy were he said he would have never left if he knew the salaries were going to increase to those levels. Remember, they were twice current levels in the tiger years.

Surely there has to be rules surrounding what goes on air regarding established businesses? Fair enough if Mary from Finglas bought a hearing aid off Whacker who was driving around in a white van selling them for €50 a pop but shouldn’t a disgruntled caller be steered towards engaging with the business long before she gets on air? Even so if they were engaging and things weren’t going well, shouldn’t there then be an intercession from s researcher saying that this will go on air with a grace of s day or two to get sorted out. I know radio shows aren’t consumer watchdogs but if you put a disgruntled customer of an established business on air you bear a lot of responsibility for the outcome good or bad.

Still though. That’s like sawing off your lower body to solve a corn in your foot! I still think they could n have interceded with the business on her h behalf before going to air. I’m sure the threat of being named and shaved would have concentrated minds. I do think they were wrong to refuse the refund in the face of it but I don’t know tge specifics of the situation. Mind you as a business I’d rather write off a few thousand quid than risk the closure of the business. Reading that article it feels like the owner is putting the best side out. “Yeah that day the giant cane and burst the damn near our village was awful and a lot of people died but we rebuilt and the houses are now on stilts because we learned a lesson. We’re a much smaller village now but all the better for it I think”. I feel sorry for that business owner actually. Did they need to be taken down a peg maybe? Definitely. Did they need a fight for their very existence? Absolutely not. Meanwhile Joey Five Chins slurps and burps his way onto the next subject without a care in the world, safe in the knowledge he’ll never have to fight for anything with his massive remuneration package.

Just to connect a couple of topics of the week, when a good egg goes bad it smells of sulfur, so a new job for RT might be as someone who removes unwanted bats from attics.

To continue with bats, Dee Forbes former employer, Discovery, merged with Warner Bros., who produce the Batman Movies and own DC Comics who ultimately own the rights to Batman and publish the Batman Comics. If she had stayed with them she could have ended up working in Hollywood with global stars.
