Hi all, just want to check something.

I have to replace my bathroom sink, which also means changing out the p trap.

the waste pipe goes outside to the soil stack which connects into the sewage.

When I take off the p trap should I cover up the pipe temp (while I’m changing the sink) to stop smells or gas coming back up from the soil stack as there is no water trap in the soil stack system? Or do I need to?

    Yes, I would anyway.

I prefer to wrap some plastic around it and tape it up rather than putting anything into the pipe.
