Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Audi A3 ignition barrel won't turn

My son has a 2006 A3 1.6 petrol. Last night he got into it to drive home and the key will only turn a tiny bit - the radio will come on and the steering lock is disengaged but it won't turn on to battery lights or to start. He's tried both keys with equal lack of success and has tried putting wd40 on the key, but no joy. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it needs a new key and barrel as something might have popped out of place to stop key turning further.

Yep. That's what was diagnosed alright. Barrel can't be replaced on its own - needs complete ignition to be changed. New part from Audi quoted at €250ish, but the kicker is the wait would be between 10 days and 8 weeks. So he ended up getting a second hand ignition from a scrapped car and is back on the road, hoping that it doesn't happen with that one too.
