I’m buying a car from a private seller in Northern Ireland. What documents do I need to vrt the car? Thanks

The full v5 document, they will remove the export piece from it to send to DVLA. You also should get some receipt from them, doesn't need to be any professional version, just something to say "I Mr X sold the car xxxx xxxx to Mr Y for £3000 on X date.".

If the v5 ownership details have changed to the NIRL sellers address since 1st January 2021 it would be recommended to get proof car was already in NIRL prior to this date to avoid additional import charges.

Make sure you are aware of the NOX charges before importing, older diesels pre Sept 2015 could be thousands extra. Max on a petrol is €600, max on a diesel post Sept 2015 is €600.
