About 9 years ago, an Irish Film channel was mooted for Saorview, why didn't it happen?

It is still part of the Broadcasting Act 2009. Idea was the the IFB/BSÉ (now Screen Ireland |Fis Éireann) could commission films though the Sound and Vision Fund without having to go through RTÉ, TG4 and Virgin Media.

It was never going to happen because no effort was put into supporting by either the Dept of Art or the Dept of Comms who both kept saying it was their jurisdiction, along with no really want for it from the Irish Film Board.

A great pity because it would have added another voice to Irish Broadcasting, along with being able to highlight new Irish film, docs and short film, and European Cinema along with classic cinema as well. But sure like everything....

Maybe RTE 2 should be turned into an Irish film channel, if/when sport moves to RTE 1 ?
