Khazri scored a fantastic long range goal for St. Etienne in their draw with Metz.

Watching Lyon vs Lens atm and Lyon are 2-0 ahead at half-time. Toko Ekambi from the spot, and Aouar's header providing the goals. Guessing they won't blow this 2 goal lead.

2-1. A jammy, scuffed shot by Kalimuendo beats Lopes. Game on.

Full-time and Lyon see out the win. They're not far off the CL places now. Nice and Marseille with a chance to take second place off Lens tomorrow.

Andy Delort just scored a stoppage time screamer on the volley to give Nice another turnaround win, this time over Angers. It finished 2-1 and he got the equaliser too, although that one took a big deflection. Nice up to second place now.

A goal and 2 assists for Lens' RWB Jonathan Clauss against Troyes. If not for the fact he's 29, I'd say a lot of clubs would be after him. Quality player. Good 4-0 win for Lens to go temporarily second, but Troyes were dreadful. Their goalkeeper Gallon might be the worst in the league.

PSG win 3-2 away at Bordeaux in another not terribly convincing display where, at one stage, they had been 3-0 in front. Neymar with a brace and Mbappe got the 3rd goal. Mbappe also provided 2 assists. This goal the pick of the lot:

Bordeaux played well and should avoid the drop if they can keep performing like this. PSG continue to look questionable in midfield and defence. Too often relying on their attackers to bail them out. Neymar and Mbappe were very good. Messi was missing through injury.

Remarkable first win of the season for under pressure Claude Puel at St. Etienne. They were losing 2-0 at home to promoted Clermont up until the 78th minute when the turnaround started. Ended up getting a 92nd minute equaliser and a 94th minute winner. Moves them off the bottom and up to 19th. Looking forward to the highlights of that.

I watched Reims vs Monaco which turned out to be a poor game that ended 0-0. Best chance fell to sub Kevin Volland who headed wide late on. Monaco really lacking in creativity this season.

Rennes beating Lyon 4-1 is a shock. I remember when the Lyon fans used to give Bruno Genesio plenty of stick, which felt harsh. Bet he enjoyed that win.

Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer getting a lot of plaudits for his performance in Rennes' 4-1 win over Lyon. Croatian media have dubbed him the new Modric apparently. Rennes put out a compilation of his game:

He's in the Croatia squad for their upcoming qualifiers.

Fun game tonight between Monaco and Lille that ends 2-2. Jonathan David with 2 early goals to put Lille in front, making him top scorer in Ligue 1 with 10 goals altogether. Diatta and Ben Yedder levelled it up. Sofiane Diop very impressive for Monaco.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Messi got his first Ligue 1 goal as PSG beat Nantes 3-1.

Lovro Majer continuing his good form for Rennes as he scored their second in a 2-0 win over Montpellier. Rennes up to 2nd for the time being. Bruno Genesio doing a great job there.

Lyon vs Marseille tomorrow evening should be fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Another high profile Ligue 1 game being spoiled by crowd trouble. Payet struck in the head by a water bottle thrown by Lyon supporters. Lyon players went over to tell their fans to cop on. Ref has taken the players off for the moment.

Update: Lyon players are back out at 9:15pm to resume the game. Reports suggest Payet will not continue if the game restarts. Seems very harsh for Marseille to have to continue the game without their talisman.

10 minutes on and the Lyon players are going back inside. It was a pretty lacklustre warm-up, as if they didn't believe Marseille players were coming back. Strong chance of the game being abandoned now.

9:45pm and the match is officially abandoned. Sad to see another big game disrupted by a troublemaking moron. It overshadows a good weekend too. Gouiri got a brace as Nice recovered to beat Clermont from 1-0 down. Claude Puel's St. Etienne helped their survival hopes by winning 1-0 at Troyes. Brest beat high-flying Lens 4-0 in a big surprise. Metz and Bordeaux played out a 3-3 draw. But all of that will be ignored after this.

This is the second game I've settled down to watch in France that has been suspended, for exactly the same reason. Stupid fans.

As the commentators said last night - they spent long enough waiting to be let back into the grounds, and now this.

The last time Payet was hit with a bottle (at Nice), he threw it back into the crowd causing a riot. Nice were docked two points, (1 suspended), and had to replay their Ligue 1 game with Marseille. They were originally 1-0 up with 15 minutes to play. The replayed game ended 1-1, so at least there was some punishment, but everyone is blaming everyone else last night.

Marseilles themselves are far from squeaky clean, as their "fans" fired all sorts of objects at Neymar in the recent 0-0 draw at Marseilles.

Shock result tonight as 2nd place Nice lose 1-0 at home to bottom side Metz. Delort had 2 decent chances but other than that Nice created little and were reduced to shooting from miles out. I tuned in to watch Gouiri and he was invisible. Service to him was poor in his defence. Big result for Metz who stay bottom but now just a point separating 15th from 20th. Rennes will go above Nice in 2nd if they win at Lorient tomorrow.

Sergio Ramos makes his long-awaited debut for PSG away to St. Etienne, playing alongside Marquinhos, with Bernat LB and Hakimi RB. That might be their best back four, fitness permitting. Game is on BT Sport with a noon kick-off.

1-0 St. Etienne. No clean sheet for Ramos on his debut. Bouanga with a great finish after a beautiful outside of the boot ball from Khazri.

1-1 just before the break. Double whammy for St. Etienne as Kolodziejczak given a straight red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, then Marquinhos with a great header from the resulting free by Messi. I thought the red was harsh as there was another player there.

2-1 PSG. Di Maria finishes from close range after a period of sustained pressure. Messi missed a sitter before that. Ten minutes to go. Can't see St. Etienne getting back into it. More likely to be another Paris goal or two.

Neymar being stretchered off after rolling his ankle. Looks like a bad injury here. He could face a spell on the sidelines.

3-1. Marquinhos heads home a nice Messi cross for his second of the game.

Full-time and it ends 3-1 PSG. Despite the scoreline, it wasn't a very convincing display by PSG. The red card was the key moment and I think St Etienne were hard done by there. Messi missed a great chance but did provide a hat-trick of assists. Mbappe was thwarted all game by goalkeeper Green. Neymar looked like he took a bad injury but that could be a blessing in disguise in terms of helping Pochettino find a better balance.

Had a look at PSG vs Nice which ended goalless. Dolberg missed a great chance to win it, hitting his header against the post. Benitez made a good stop from Di Maria. Draw was probably a fair result. Also watched Monaco's 3-1 win at Angers before it. One of the best games I've seen Monaco play this season. Sofiane Diop is a baller and continues to impress. He got one of their goals.

Lyon losing 2-1 at home to Reims was a surprise. They can't get it together in the league this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Lens get a 1-1 draw with PSG. Only turned it on for the final ten minutes to see Wijnaldum head a stoppage time equaliser from a nice Mbappe cross. Fofana got the Lens goal after poor keeping from Navas. Seems Lens had more chances. PSG not looking convincing at all but the other sides can't get any consistency going. Marseille beaten 2-1 at home by in-form Brest.

Nice to hear Tim Caple on BT commentary too. Much rather listen to him than Paul Dempsey or Jonathan Pearce.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

It had to happen after today's 5-0 loss at home to Rennes. They were awful. Martin Terrier got a hat-trick in the game and his third goal was a beauty. Lovro Majer with a hat-trick of assists.

Strasbourg with an impressive 3-0 win away to Nice. They're up to 6th and have the second best goals record in the league, 2 behind PSG. Julien Stephan doing a nice job there following his good stint at Rennes. Galtier's side have gone off the boil of late.

Poor result for Lyon, drawing 2-2 with out of sorts Bordeaux. Peter Bosz coming under big pressure as Lyon sit 12th.

Wonder will that prove significant at the end of the season. The abandoned game is to be replayed at Lyon behind closed doors.

Cracking game of football between Nantes and Lens. The visitors were leading 2-0 at half-time before 2 goals from Kolo Muani levelled it up. Sub Moses Simon scored a belter in the 90th minute to complete the turnaround.

That result dents Lens' European hopes as they remain fifth. Nantes up to tenth for now. Thought Ludovic Blas looked very good. Very creative on the ball and think he'd be a good January window option for a lot of sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Bamba Dieng, take a bow...

Good 2-0 win for Marseille over in-form Strasbourg to go second in the table. Nice also had an impressive win, beating Rennes 2-1 away. Lille and Lyon played out a goalless draw. Lille had the better chances but couldn't finish.

PSG play Monaco in the evening game.

2-0 win for PSG over Monaco. Mbappe continues his great record against his old club with both goals.

Last Ligue 1 action of the year tonight sees PSG surprisingly held 1-1 at 19th place Lorient. Shocked by that as Lorient have been awful of late. Paris needed a stoppage time goal from Icardi as well.

Marseille not able to take advantage, being held 1-1 at home to Reims, and they needed a 98th minute penalty from Payet. Nice now 2nd after coming from behind to beat Lens 2-1. Monaco up to 6th after also coming from 1-0 down to beat Rennes 2-1. Montpellier surprisingly up to 5th place after a 4-1 thrashing of Angers. Lyon still in the doldrums in 12th place after a 1-1 draw with lowly Metz.

We're 19 games in, so I thought I'd do my team of the half-season for Ligue 1...

The keepers that caught my eye the most were Sels, Lopes and Lafont. I decided to go with Sels as he's been a big part of Strasbourg's top 10 position and I can't think of any mistakes from him.

Not a strong campaign for LBs so far, so I avoided them entirely. Quite a few strong RBs/RWBs and I'm cheating a bit by putting Clauss in that position but I didn't want to omit him. Honourable mentions for Hamari Traore and Frederic Guilbert. Hakimi started very strong but has had a few shaky performances. As for CBs, Todibo and Marquinhos have been solid.

In midfield, Fofana has been a big presence for Lens, so he gets in. Payet, Savanier and Paqueta have all been quality going forward and so I wanted them in. Honourable mentions to Sofiane Diop, Romain Faivre and Ludovic Blas for their attacking threat.

Up top, Mbappe has been immense once more. David leads the scoring charts and has been very good. Laborde has really gone up a gear with Rennes and is a quality player. Mohamed Bayo unfortunate to miss out after scoring 9 goals with promoted side Clermont.

Monaco have seemingly sacked Niko Kovac tonight.

They fell off massively from last season's title challenge but they're only 4 points off second-place Nice. The timing of it surprises me. They also topped a tricky Europa League group with Real Sociedad and PSV.

Laurent Battles sacked today as coach of Troyes, with them sitting a point above the relegation place.

Bordeaux vs Marseille kicking off at 8pm on BT Sport. Bordeaux ultras had tried to get the game called off to protect a 44-year unbeaten streak against OM in the city. 7 of the Bordeaux starting 11 have just come out of isolation, with goalkeeper Costil testing positive 7 days ago. Remi Oudin allegedly still presenting symptoms. If Marseille can break the hoodoo, they will move second.

1-0 Marseille. Under scores after a gift of a ball from Costil. Looks bad for Bordeaux as they haven't got going yet.

Full-time and an historic result as Marseille end Bordeaux's streak. Pity it happened in an empty stadium. Marseille move into second while Bordeaux could slip into the relegation places depending on other results.

Lens vs Rennes tomorrow at 8pm should be good, assuming it goes ahead.

Impressive 3-0 win for Nice away to Brest despite playing most of the game with 10 men. Thought Schneiderlin was very hard done by to be given a straight red for what looked a nothing challenge. Might as well ban tackling if we're saying that's a red. Gouiri with a great goal at the end, adding to his earlier assist.

Lyon vs PSG ends 1-1. Paqueta with an early goal after a lovely Guimaraes pass. Good change by Poch as the 2 subs Michut and Kehrer linked up for the equaliser. Draw probably a fair result. Navas saved well from Dembele and Mbappe hit the post twice.

Watched Nice's 2-1 over Nantes to see them move temporarily 2nd in the table. Khephren Thuram, son of Lillian, with a lovely individual goal which proved the difference. He's only 20 and looks a great prospect. Also impressed by Nice's other CM Pablo Rosario. Those two are well worth a watch. Gouiri impressed again as well and got himself an assist. Feels like Galtier is building something special there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Comfortable 2-0 win for PSG over Brest. Mbappe and Kehrer with the goals. First half was competitive and Donnarumma made a superb stop. Second half was all PSG and Brest keeper Bizot kept the scoreline respectable. Mbappe, Verratti and Nuno Mendes impressive.

St. Etienne stay bottom after blowing a 1-0 lead over Lens in the final 15 minutes. Seko Fofana with a 95th minute winner. Keep him away from Burnley please.

Marseille vs Lille tomorrow evening looks a good watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Plenty of goals in Ligue 1 today. Watched Montpellier's 3-2 win over Monaco which had some eye-catching strikes. Stephy Mavididi with 2 goals and is having a good season.

Bordeaux beating Strasbourg 4-3 must be the surprise of the round. Hwang Ui-jo got a hat-trick and they're now out of the drop zone. Looking like St. Etienne are doomed. Sad to see one of France's most successful clubs in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom. Some fall from grace from being 4th as recent as 2019.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

PSG won't be retaining their French Cup this season. Nice have knocked them out this evening 6-5 on penalties after the game had ended 0-0. Didn't see the game but sounds like Nice deserved the win. The quarter-final line-up for the cup looks interesting:

Nice (Ligue 1) vs Marseille (Ligue 1)

Bergerac vs Versailles (both 4th division)

Nantes (Ligue 1) vs Bastia (Ligue 2)

Monaco (Ligue 1) vs Amiens (Ligue 2)

Looks a great opportunity for Nice, Marseille and Monaco to win the trophy. None of them have won it this century.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Great comeback by Lyon to beat Marseille 2-1. Guendouzi had given OM the lead, Shaqiri equalised with a nice header, and Dembele won it with a lovely individual goal off the bench. Saliba will be disappointed with his defending.

Lyon up to 7th now and only 6 points off the Champions League places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Fun game this evening as Marseille beat Angers 5-2. Angers had been 2-0 in front after 11 minutes. Milik with a hat-trick and Cengiz Under had the best goal of the night with this beautiful hit:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Good 2-0 win for Monaco over Lyon. Impressive performances from Tchouameni and Diop. Lyon disappointing. They brought on new signings Faivre and Ndombele for the second half and Ndombele did the better of the two. Nice finish by Ben Yedder from Diop's pass:

Monaco up to 4th for the moment.

St. Etienne also off the bottom of the table. They came back to beat Montpellier 3-1 with all three goals coming in the final ten minutes. Maybe there's still hope for them.

Lille hammered 5-1 at home by PSG. Didn't see the game but looks like Lille are heading into the Chelsea game in poor shape. Lovely strike by Mbappe:

Some surprising results today: Nice losing 1-0 at home to Clermont; bottom side Lorient climbing out of the drop zone by beating Lens 2-0; Reims beating fellow strugglers Bordeaux 5-0. Only 3 points separating 16th from 20th as it stands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Mbappe with a 93rd minute winner to beat Rennes. Messi with the assist. Didn't see the game but seems Rennes gave a good account of themselves. Mbappe just keeps producing these clutch moments when needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Good 2-0 win for Lyon over Nice. Dembele and Toko Ekambi with the goals. Brings them within 5 points of the CL places which is mad given their awful start to the season. Ndombele getting a lot of praise for his performance and he provided an assist. Nice with 2 losses on the bounce now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

PSG suffer their 2nd league defeat of the season, losing 3-1 at Nantes. It was a strong PSG side too. Maybe a Champions League hangover. Neymar's awful pen saved by Lafont that could have got them back into it...

Nantes creeping up the table from out of nowhere to 5th. Very congested in the battle for European places with just 2 points separating 5th from 10th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

It's going to be Nice vs Nantes in the French Cup final in May after Nantes surprisingly beat Monaco on pens after the game ended 2-2. First time this century either side will have made the final. Good to see different teams there instead of the usual PSG domination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 842 ✭✭✭- bo -

A really mad few weeks. Sure, there's as much sh1te going on behind the scenes as ever. But watching Nantes is more enjoyable than it's been for any of the past 20 years at the minute. Kombouare is a miracle worker and has brought us from the brink of Ligue 2, to chasing European spots and a first cup final in 22 years (not counting league cup in 2004-ish?). I've got a holiday booked on the day of the cup final of course, 8th May. But seeing now that it'll be brought forward to the 7th as the initial plan for a Sunday game was incase one of the teams was in a European final on the 4th, which can't happen now that Monaco are out. Still unfortunately don't think I can make it over sadly...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Nice beat PSG 1-0 thanks to a great finish from Delort.

They're still well off PSG but Galtier looks to be building something exciting there like he did with Lille. If he can achieve CL football, and possibly a French Cup win, that would be a brilliant first year for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Wouldn't be surprised to see Poch get the sack this evening after that result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

There were rumours that the Monaco owner was going to sack Philippe Clement going into this game. Can't see that happening now.

Marseille beat Nice 2-1 in the evening game to go 2nd. Rennes still in the CL race after thrashing Metz 6-1 and they've now scored more goals than PSG in the league (63 vs 59).

At the other end, Bordeaux still looking awful and sit bottom of the table. They lost 2-0 at home to Montpellier despite playing the second half with 11 players against 9.

I was checking out the highlights and the Sotoca goal for Lens against Clermont was similar to the goal Dion Dublin scored against Given. Despite the awful howler from Djoco, it still required a great finish:

Mad result tonight in the battle to avoid relegation. Things were looking grim for Lorient who went 2-0 down at home to fellow strugglers St. Etienne, but they've come back to win 6-2. Lorient still not out of the woods but it gives them a 4 point lead over St. Etienne who sit 18th.

Monaco right back in the hunt for a Champions League place after winning away at Rennes 3-2. Now just 3 points off. This goal by Vanderson was the pick of the bunch with a beautiful pass by Golovin for the assist:

Pauleta, PSG's all-time top scorer before Ibrahimovic broke the record, kicks off tonight's game against Marseille while wearing a shirt with his name on it.

Jonathan Pearce: I'm sorry, I have no idea who that is.

    Worst commentator out there.

Games ends 2-1 to PSG. Harsh result on Marseille who played well. PSG got a questionable pen just before half-time for handball.

The Le Classique was a dreadful watch.

For avid Ligue 1 watchers, the Messi we saw tonight is a shadow of his Barca self. Is he like this since he came?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

He's been unlucky in some ways by hitting the post a ridiculous amount of times but generally his goals aren't there the way they used to be. He's operating like a deep playmaker now. PSG fans aren't happy because they thought they were getting the guy that was scoring 30 odd goals a season but I don't think he's that player without the Barca team that was built around him. I reckon his future years will be as a Bernardo Silva style creative player from deep.

I was half watching this in the pub earlier, i forgot about all the other players PSG have that are not the front three - icardi, di maria, bernat, even the lesser spotted Ramos.

PSG 45 minutes away from clinching the title. They need to beat Angers (they're 2-0 ahead) and Marseille have to fail to beat Nantes (Nantes are leading 2-1).

Nice's CL hopes have hit the rocks lately. Monaco beat them 1-0 earlier and are now ahead of them in the table. Strasbourg currently beating Rennes 1-0 and will go level with them and Monaco on points if that result stays the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Monaco now 3 points clear of Rennes and Strasbourg for the final CL place after beating St. Etienne 3-1. It leaves St. Etienne in 18th with 2 tough games next against Rennes and Nice.

PSG up next against Lens and will be confirmed as champions if they get at least a point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

PSG confirmed as champions despite being held 1-1 at home by Lens. It was a good performance by Lens who went down to ten just before the hour mark. The point keeps them in the hunt for European football.

Great goal by Messi to open the scoring.

PSG now equal St. Etienne's record of 10 league wins. Pleased for Poch who gets a first league title of his career. Not sure if he will be there next season despite the win. May well be Mbappe's last league title in France as well.

Mr Nice Guy, what are your thoughts on Rennes v Lorient tomorrow? pretty big game for Rennes to keep them in the CL hunt

This is a derby right? Would it be a heated one?

What result would you fancy for tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Yeah it's a Breton derby. Big game for both sides as Lorient aren't safe yet and Rennes need to keep pace with Monaco. I'd fancy a Rennes win as they've lost their last two against other CL chasing sides and they need to bounce back. They're usually good for a few goals at home.
