Mad game between Nantes and Bordeaux. Nantes were 2-0 down at half-time but came back to win 5-3. Bordeaux could have made it 4-4 at one stage but missed a penalty before Nantes got their fifth. Looking forward to the highlights of that later. Can't see Bordeaux staying up as they just can't defend. 84 goals conceded in the league already, which is embarrassing.

Cracking match night tonight between Strasbourg and PSG that ends 3-3. Strasbourg were 1-0 in front, then 3-1 behind, before equalising in injury time.

Mbappe and Neymar did well but the rest looked like they're on holiday.

Julien Stephan a contender for coach of the season. Got Rennes into the CL a few years back and now has a chance to do the same for Strasbourg. I reckon they'll just miss out, but Europa League football would still be good. Their fans always provide a great atmosphere, so I hope they finish the season well.

Marseille beaten 3-0 at home by Lyon. Impressive performance from the young RB Malo Gusto who did very well for the 2nd goal:

Lyon's young CB Castello Lukeba also caught the eye and scored the opener. Lyon might sneak a Europa League spot at this rate. Marseille meanwhile could be about to bottle Champions League football. They're only 3 points ahead of Rennes and Monaco, and have a tricky run-in.

Monaco up to 2nd after winning 2-1 at Lille. Looking good for the Champions League now. Tchouameni with a MOTM performance: 2 goals including the winning strike...

I saw a suggestion that he might stay at Monaco if they get Champions League football but I think he's ready now for a move to a bigger club. If he starts adding goals to his game, he will be something special. He could have had a hat-trick tonight.

As for Lille, they've been awful champions. I know they had big departures including the coach Galtier but they'll struggle to get top ten at this rate. Discipline in the team seems to be gone as well. Two players sent off last weekend at Troyes, and Jose Fonte lucky not to get a red tonight for sarcastic applause to the ref.

Nantes have won the French Cup tonight, beating Nice thanks to a Ludovic Blas penalty. The club's first trophy in 22 years.

Remarkable story considering they finished 18th last season and had to win their relegation/promotion play-off to stay up. Now they are into the Europa League group stages next season.

Has to be regarded as a big disappointment for Nice. It's possible that they might not make Europe at all now.

2009 Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux look to be relegated. Will be guaranteed to finish in the bottom 3 after losing 4-1 at Angers. Metz have given themselves a chance to survive after beating Lyon 3-2 with Lyon set to miss out on European football altogether.

Big blow to Rennes' Champions League hopes, losing 2-1 at Nantes. Now find themselves behind Nice who came from 2-0 down to beat St. Etienne 4-2. Marseille and Monaco still in the driving seat. Rennes play Marseille at the weekend which should be good.

Very dramatic night in Ligue 1. Lorient survive after a goalless draw at Bordeaux, effectively relegating Bordeaux. Metz have beaten Angers to climb into the relegation play-off spot, as St. Etienne slip to 19th after losing 2-1 at home to Reims. Metz are away to PSG in the final game, so St. Etienne have to hope PSG beat them, and that they themselves can get at least a point at Nantes.

CL places still up for grabs too. Monaco were 2-0 down at home to Brest but came back to win 4-2, while Rennes have beaten Marseille 2-0 at home. It leaves Monaco and Marseille tied on 68 points, and Rennes on 65 but with a far superior goal difference. Only 2 can qualify. All three have tricky final games: Monaco are away to Lens, Marseille host Strasbourg, and Rennes are away to Lille.

Nice in danger of missing Europe altogether after losing 3-1 at home to Galtier's former side Lille. Their best chance looks a Conference League spot, with Strasbourg holding it at the moment on goal difference.

Ben Yedder's hat-trick tonight has made the Golden Boot race interesting. Mbappe leading with 25 goals to Ben Yedder's 24. Mbappe with the better fixture. Saw some Messi fans complaining that Mbappe took the pen this evening against Montpellier (Messi had scored 2 goals and was on a hat-trick) but I think he did the right thing.

Auxerre have qualified for the relegation/promotion play-off after beating Sochaux on penalties. They will play either Metz or St. Etienne after we learn tomorrow which of them finishes 18th and 19th respectively. I'd prefer St. Etienne to stay up. Would be a shame to see an iconic French club in the second tier.

Rennes goal difference is an eye opener; +42. PSG are +49 and are 15 points clear

Final games of the season kick off at 8pm. BT Sport 3 showing Lens vs Monaco. Things to keep an eye on:

    Champions League places

A point for Monaco will guarantee a CL place (3rd place in Ligue 1 goes into a CL qualifier). A Monaco win ensures they’re 2nd and automatically into the group stages. If they lose, they could find themselves in the Europa League, depending on how Marseille and Rennes fare in their games against Strasbourg and Lille respectively.

    Europa League & Conference League

Lens can get into the Conference League if they beat Monaco, and Strasbourg and Nice lose.

Nice, who are away to Reims, need to better Strasbourg's result, who are away to Marseille, to take a Conference League spot. If Rennes lose at Lille as well, Nice could nick a Europa League spot.

    Relegation and the play-off spot

It's between Metz and St. Etienne over who will be relegated. Metz are currently 18th and away to PSG, so will probably lose. A point at Nantes therefore ought to be enough to see St. Etienne climb above Metz and into the play-off spot, thus sending Metz down.

    Ligue 1 Golden Boot

Mbappe has 25 goals, while Ben Yedder is on 24. Mbappe should be favourite to get it given he has the better fixture.

Half-time. 1-1 between Lens and Monaco. Lens playing well and Fofana threatening with his runs forward from midfield. Marseille are leading Strasbourg thanks to a Gerson goal. Rennes are drawing 1-1 at Lille. As it stands, Marseille and Monaco will take the CL spots and Rennes will be in the Europa League.

Strasbourg will be in the Conference League currently despite losing, as Nice are losing 2-0 at Reims. Been a miserable end to the season for Galtier's side.

Metz losing 3-0 at PSG. Mbappe has scored 2 goals and has surely got the Golden Boot. St. Etienne will be relegated unless they can find an equaliser at Nantes. They're losing 1-0 atm.

Fantastic late drama in the games. Ganago got a 96th minute goal for Lens that takes Monaco from the CL group stages into a qualifying round. Game ended 2-2.

Andy Delort grabbed a hat-trick in the final 15 minutes to take Nice from 2-0 down to win 3-2, so Nice qualify for the Conference League. At one stage Nice were heading into the Europa League as Rennes were losing 2-1 at Lille, but a 93rd minute equaliser from Serhou Guirassy takes Rennes into the Europa League.

St. Etienne are into the relegation play-off after Romain Hamouma got a late equaliser. That relegates Metz who were thrashed 5-0 at PSG. Mbappe got a hat-trick to claim the Golden Boot. Leaves things like so:

    Champions: PSG

2nd & CL Group stage: Marseille

3rd & CL Qualifying Rd: Monaco

Europa League: Rennes and Nantes (French Cup winners)

    Conference League: Nice

Relegation/promotion play-off: St. Etienne vs Auxerre

Who will PSG install as the puppet manager while Mbappe runs the club?

Nice well paid job for someone anyway.

I wondwer how Messi & Neymar's egos will handle playing 2nd & 3rd fiddle to Mbappe.

1st leg of the relegation/promotion play-off kicks off at 6pm as Auxerre host St. Etienne. BT Sport showing it.

Auxerre hoping to return to Ligue 1 for the first time in ten years. I'd prefer St. Etienne to win, though. They've the joint-most Ligue 1 titles of any club alongside PSG. It would be a shame to see such a big club in Ligue 2, especially with Bordeaux already down. Bouanga could be the difference for them in the tie.

1-0 to St. Etienne. Nice curled finish from Youssouf.

1-1. Sub Perrin smashes home an equaliser with minutes to go. They deserve that.

First leg finishes 1-1. Second leg is on Sunday at 6pm. Away goals will count if I'm not mistaken.

The 2nd leg of the relegation/promotion play-off between St. Etienne and Auxerre is going to extra time after normal time ended 1-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

It's going to penalties. Tough way for a team to be relegated or stuck in the second tier.

    Hope St. Etienne do it.

Auxerre win the penalty shootout and return to Ligue 1 for the first time in 10 years. St. Etienne are relegated.

Disgraceful scenes at the end with some home fans invading the pitch and throwing down fireworks. Auxerre players have to dash to the tunnel.

    Absolute anarchy.

French authorities need to figure out how to crack down on this carry on next season.

They really should start next season with a massive points deduction for that.
