Future situation I might find myself in, as a boss.

    Heard of it on reddit.

What do you say to such 'candidates' after having raised their hopes so high? Any suggestions below welcome, remember this is not AH.

You won't need to say anything to them there any then, generally they will just be told a more suitable candidate was found.

"We regret to inform you that your application for this position will not be progressed.

We wish you all the best in your future career."

And if they come looking for feedback, say:

"Another candidate was a better fit for the position. "

Don't raise their hopes high until you make your final decision.
