Hi, have tried to call NDLS but they have their phone switched off. I am trying to find out what this means :. Ontario licence holders can exchange a G or G2 driving licence for the category B (car) restricted to automatic transmission. Please note that an original driver’s abstract/statement is required with Ontario exchanges. However if a driver exchanging an Ontario Licence has a current entitlement in Ireland, a driver’s abstract/statement is not required .

It means that if you only have an Ontario license they will only give you an automatic license in Ireland and you need to present the Ontario drivers abstract. If you previously held a license in Ireland (which you exchanged for an Ontario license) then they will give you a full license in Ireland without the need to present the drivers abstract. I seem to recall reading about a 10 year time limit on getting the Irish license back so it might be worth contacting NDLS to verify if that’s still in place (it might have been 10 years after original expiry date of the Irish license).
