Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was watching a re run of the 2005 FA Cup Final, Arsenal vs Man Utd. The match ended 0-0 and after extra time went to a penalty shootout whereby Arsenals 5th penalty was taken by Patrick Vieira who scored. However Vieira was red carded(2nd yellow) for a foul on Ronaldo in extra time, how then was he allowed take a penno? Just what are the rules here and have they changed.

Reyes was sent off, not Vieira.

Vieira's first (and only) booking was in the 118th minute.

What would happen if, in that or a similar match (i.e. one player sent off), the sides were still all square after the first ten pens? The team with 11 men would have their 11th taken by that 11th man, but what about the team who were down to ten men, who would take their 11th peno??

The team with 11 gets to choose who doesn’t take one for their team, so you still have an equal number of players taking pens. If it’s level after those 10 it cycles back around.

The team with more players have to select a player not to take part. So both teams would be using 10 players rather than one with 11 and one with 10.

The chosen excluded player can't take part in either role in the shootout, so you can't pick your goalkeeper as the player to skip taking a penalty.

Well you can, but it'd mean an outfield player will have to step in goals for the entire shootout....
