And a short lived American style diner up the back.

I hear tell there may even have been a cinema in there at one stage... going back just a little bit more

There was definitely a cinema there - I remember seeing "Cahill" (pronounced Cay-hill), a John Wayne film, back in the 70s

Seats maybe 3d or a shilling? With a packet of Salt and Vinegar. Heaven!

I thought there was a more relevant thread, but can't find it....

Can't say I'm filled with optimism for what they're going to do to Menlough Castle. The Old castle by the bridge had looked a bit crap for as long as I can remember tbf, so the fact that it looks a bit crap now isn't that much of a loss, but Menlough castle would be another story... Don't think I've ever made it out to the one at Merlin.

Christ - I never thought I'd ever see the top of Merlin Castle again. 'The gang' used to trek from (old) Mervue to Merlin for a day of adventure... up the spiral stairs, right to the top and around the wall with nothing on either side. Scaffolding and all that safety equipment? Not a chance. Black runners was all, if we were lucky.

    So thanks for that link.

Menlo Castle, Merlin Castle and Terryland castle were all cleaned up. I think they were essentially made safer. I don't think Galway city council are spending a lot of money on doing anything else with them yet. They did a good job on Merlin and Terryland.
