Getting a Credit Card with poor credit history?

    Hello All,

Anyone know of any credit cards that are easier to apply for and get, if you are ok with insanely high interest rates? (It's only going to be used once, to rent a car, so not really worried about the high interest rate.)

Credit Card application to bank declined due to a one time ding on credit report from 18 months ago. That debt has been paid and closed, but bank said it would need to be at least 2 years old, before an application would stand a chance of passing muster.

    Ta.

Provided you have an Irish driving license, you should be able to find a rental company that allows you to pay with a a debit card or pay cash.

Nope, it's massively complicated and they put a hold on the debit card for insane amounts of money, if you don't have a credit card.

Have been burned by that before, so looking for credit card suggestions only folks. Thanks though.

If you’ve got a credit report entry in the last 18 months that causes a bank to decline an application rather than offer a card with a low balance, you better start thinking of a plan B….

From the two rental car agencies I checked both are offering to take cash or debit cards and it seems very straightforward. Alternatively, perhaps you could put it on a friend or relations card.

No, debit card isn't an option. Going to a small town and the only 2 car hire companies operating in it, put such a large hold on debit cards, its not really viable.

When living in a different country, there were a few independent credit card companies operating, that were not affiliated with the major banks, the same way that most of us here would have our credit card with whoever we bank with...AIB or Bank of Ireland or whoever.

If you were ok with paying very high interest rates, or a high annual fee, or having a very low starting line of credit, you'd generally be able to get the credit card without having to pass the more rigorous credit checks that the main banks or credit card companies insist upon.

Was just wondering if similar ones operated in the Irish market, that's all.

Well then it looks like cash is your best option.
