hello, if both husband and wife are paying prsi and have the full ammount of contributions at 65 do both get 248.30?

Yes they do. Each of them claims the contributory pension in their own right when they reach 66.

Assuming the man is older, if the wife is not working when he reaches 66 then he may be able to claim the increase for a 'qualified adult' for the period before she reaches pension age. It's means-tested based on her income so if she's still working or is getting a social welfare allowance, he probably won't qualify.

It's going to have to go to 67/68 and older sooner rather than later - it's simply not sustainable the way it is. State pensions were designed for a life span of five or so pensionable years, not 20.

I think anybody 10+ years out from their pension should certainly be factoring in an age increase in state contributions.

A move to 67 will happen.A gov commitee is 'reviewing' the system right now.Anyone in their 40s now are probably looking at a state at 75 years old.80 years wouldn't be impossible.

I think 75 is too radical in that short a time. (Although it is more comparable to the original intention of a pension I would say)

Is it a year every seven years they were talking of moving it? That'd mean anyone age 40 now would be looking at 70 for State pension. And that's entirely reasonable.

It also makes it more important to consider your own pension arrangements to supplement the State pension.
