    Hi helpful guys!

We live in a very small cul-de-sac off a main artery road in to Bray, Co. Wicklow. We've had Eir BB + L/L for 10 years but are now out of contract & looking at options to change now that Eir are putting their prices up again. Currently we are supposed to get 100Mbps but speed-test never shows more than 76Mbps, I'm not complaining tho' as the service has always been excellent & very rarely have we experienced an outage.

We have checked our Eircode on Vodafone; Virgin Media; Sky websites & all say they can't get any service to our address.

Imagine! are able to offer the following FTTH totally independent of the existing Eir line for €59pm + Installation charge of €150: 150Mbps; Unlimited Data; Unlimited (VOIP) calls to Irish & UK landlines; 60mins pm to Irish Mobiles & adapters to enable us to use our l/l phones in their existing sockets.

Digiweb can offer the following for €40pm: 100Mbps; Unlimited Data; Off-Peak (VOIP) calls to Irish & UK landlines; Off-Peak calls to Irish Mobiles or they can also offer us this package for €45pm: 100Mbps; Unlimited Data; UNLIMITED (VOIP) calls to Irish & UK landlines; UNLIMITED calls to Irish Mobiles

We're tempted to go with Imagine! but what do you guys think? Do they install an Antenna on the chimney or side of the house? & is it therefore 'line of sight', would service be subject to weather conditions?

Thank you for any help & assistance you can give.

    Jasper

I've been with Digiweb for 6 years and can't fault them... the FritzBox routers are great

Imagine don't do FTTH so theirs will be Fixed Wireless. Whether you get 150Mbps consistently will be pot luck, on a less busy mast maybe but that could change over time and their caps can be an issue. Your existing Eir connection sounds like VDSL so would always be up to 100Mbps based on distance to the cabinet so 76Mbps sounds like you are fairly close and is quite decent. I would take a solid reliable 76Mbps on VDSL over Imagine any day.

Shop around for price if Eir wont do you a deal (bit weird that Eir and Digiweb can offer but not Vodafone/Sky). You could also try Airwire or Pure.

Just had a chat with Pure Telecom as we have Virgin and need to drop prices down and 35 a month for 100mbps.

it would be crazy to go from a VDSL connection of 76mb to a fixed wireless provider, dont do it

if eir can provide you a VDSL service then vodafone, digiweb, pure, airwire, westnet etc would, as they all piggyback off eir lines. so there must be some issue at play? Perhaps all ports in your nearest VDSL cab are full meaning some user would need to cancel to free a port up, or if you cancelled but thats a risk as you might lose your 'spot' so to speak
