Transplants in Ireland

Why do I get the impression that we’re arguing with a straw man built by anti-vaxxers? It seems very unlikely that you’re going to have large numbers of unvaccinated would be transplant recipients, rather someone has latched onto what is basically an internal memo, and is making huge noise online about it.

I mean, given that other highly vulnerable groups like the over 80s have almost 100% vaccination rates, it seems very likely that would be transplant recipients would be thinking along similar lines.

An online bubble, that seems to be debating US talking points is making a lot of noise while 91%+ of the adult population has gone out and got vaccinated.

This isn’t just a storm in a teacup, I suspect it’s a storm in a virtual teacup that resides primarily in somewhere like South Carolina.

Dr. Hickey - one of the foremost surgeons in ireland has had his say on the issue

Top surgeon hits out at Beaumont's 'inconceivable' decision to allow unvaccinated patients on transplant list (irishexaminer.com)

Needless to say - when we as a society try to make medical decisions based on pressure from people who don't have a clue what they are talking about we are in deep sh1te

Protection against a disease that is particularly risky for those who are immuno compromosed during a pandemic? Yea, it's gonna be pretty near the top of the list.

There will of course be those that can't take the vaccine for medical reasons as advised by the doctors, for anybody else it would be incredulous to expect medical science to transplant an organ for you but not follow medical science in getting a vaccine that would prevent you from dying afterwards.
