In-line waterproof switch

Hi,

I need a waterproof inline switch for some lights I'm putting on a machine. Looking for something IP65 upwards similar to a what you get on a bedside light.

I had seen some on Amazon/Ebay - but they are only 3A rated switches. I need 5A minimum. There are some large ignorant looking ones on Amazon which are 108mm long but I'd like to find something a bit more neat than them. The searches I preform seem to bring up nothing other than the cheap ones on Amazon/Ebay.

I did find an ideal one on the following website, but they are looking £9.50 delivery on top of £15.00 cost, so I'd rather not pay that money for one.

I don't know if I would trust any of these type of switches with such a high current, presuming its mains voltage. Why not something like this?

Obviously bulkier (Although at 30*30*20mm, its not bad) but also a lot sturdier and waterproof I would imagine (IP66 vs IP65). You could attach it to the side of your machine perhaps.

Its rear floodlights on a trailer for field work. 12V supply and 2x 24W lights. Gives a current rating of 4A. Hence why I need 5A minimum.

Your alternative is not ideal - There will be a cable into tractor cab into a cobo socket and I want the ability to neatly turn on/off the lights. I'd rather not have something like that. I'm not running mains, so I don't need anything with that capability - I just need a decent in line switch!

The switch and cabling will remain part of the trailer unit so there is a chance that it will be left outside at times - hence the need for a waterproof rating.

That one you posted originally is 75mm*38mm according to that site and another site had this;

The amazon one I posted is 30*30*30, so smaller in all directions bar 5mm in depth.

It's either of these I think, unless your local merchants has something!

Another thought is to just attach the switch to the trailer itself. Unless you want it in the cab with you when it gets dark.

The switch needs to be in cab as I turn it on for field work at night and then turn it off when leaving the field. I could disconnect it from socket, but that is a bodge. The correct approach is to have a switch on the cable. I just can't see how to get a waterproof switch on it neatly. Really, some sort of inline switch like what is used on lamps is the right approach. Just getting a neat waterproof one with >=5A rating is the hard bit!

I might have to cough up the £25 for that one in England.

I found one similar (probably sourced from same supplier) on AliExpress - 2 for £4. Only drawback is the delivery date. But I can work with it until then. A lot better than paying £24 for something that costs £2. Everyone needs their cuts, but that mark-up is ridiculous. I'd probably have bought if their postage wasn't over £9.
