October finished at 101mm of rain at my local station of Dunsany. Despite October being a relatively dry month up to a week ago the majority of this rain total (over 70mm) fell within the past week. The mean temperature finished 1.9C above the October mean following on from a very warm September.

This week is all change and we are entering the first cold spell of the season. Nothing dramatic this week but we should see the first of the night frosts from tonight. It will turn milder again from next weekend and after that we may alternate between mild south-westerlies and cool north-westerlies. We may well get another brief but sharp cold spell in the final week of November. At this stage we would need a bitterly cold November to deliver a cooler than average Autumn, as September and October have finished well above average with the temperature.

First drive home in dark + lashing rain, god I hate winter and the dark evenings.

Why couldn't we have kept summer time this year and not put the clocks ⏰ back!

Walked the Ballycotton Cliff Walk on Saturday and what a day it was - you'd swear we knew it was going to be a stunning day! Only thing was had to turn back in towards the end as it was still really muddy along the path and it was getting worse as we went on....! Went to Garryvoe Beach beforehand and it was heaven!

Bit of a mixed day today.

Cold night last night with a solid frost on the car roof by midnight and a dense fog this morning.

Plenty of showers earlier, nothing to heavy though and some nice rainbows with them.

My neck of the woods 🙂 it's a lovely walk, it's a shame they've given up a bit on maintaining it lately. Theres a similar cliff walk starting at Knockadoon Pier that's well worth checking out.

This weeks cool/cold spell is almost over. I don't think anywhere has seen/recorded a frost yet? Back to milder than average conditions for the next 7 to 10 days. 15 or 16C is possible in places next week. Signs of cold northerlies etc have completely dissappeared from the short range models over the past few days. GFS 12z is almost relentless mild up to 20th of November and completely Atlantic driven.

If it stays like this to the end of November than this will make Autumn 2021 a very warm one indeed.

Could someone describe todays weather as boring. ?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

We could have a whole week of this to go over the next week and becoming very mild along with it, but at least it will be mostly dry.

Are we due a dry settled winter similar to November/December 2013 ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,042 ✭✭✭mcburns07

Lovely day in Cork, an extended spell of dry weather in November is never to be sniffed at!

November has been grand so far. A bit boring but in a good way. Fair amount of sunny spells and very dry. Been hardly any rain since Monday in Dublin besides a bit of drizzle yesterday.

Turned out a very pleasant November day here today in Central Mayo. Plenty of nice spells of late autumn sunshine from a lowering sun and certainly a grand day for being outdoors. It averaged 12c here for a good part of the afternoon in a light breeze.

One thing that has struck me this year in my own garden and surrounding locality, is that the leaf fall on a lot of shrubs and trees is definitely more delayed when compared with the same time last year. This has allowed for some nice autumn colour to linger on and on a bright day like today, those lovely shades and hues got a great chance to really show themselves in all their glory.
