he put in the work, he was incredibly systematic and consistent , and for his school it was him and one other, thankfully what he wants to do is ~590 so he gets what he wants. Its not great that the inflation of grades will create more random allocation of some college courses though

Was just looking at the stats there for 2022 - 5.5% of candidates scored 600+ points and 1.9% scored 625.

Now let's says that someone wanted to study dentistry - points for both Trinity and UCC were 625 with random selection for both. The awarding of post marking adjustments added to the points inflation that has already been occurring over the years added to random selection results in a travesty of a situation.

CAO website has points stats going back to 1995 and the newspaper archives have the points required for courses. In 1995, dentistry in TCD and UCC needed 520-530 points, back then that points score was in about the top 2% like 625 points was in 2022. 600 points was top 0.05% in 1995. There was random selection for some courses back then too. Bad enough when an individual candidate could have avoided it by getting better grades, much worse in 2022 when they could get the highest possible grades and still lose out. As it is a random number, the actual marks don't matter. Someone who got six H1s with marks of 90% in each subject could be accepted into a course while someone who got 95% in each could lose out. This could cost someone massively in terms of their career.

Clowns will try to deflect by saying things like shur the LC isn't the be all and end all and shur, if you want to do dentistry you could do it in the UK or just become a dental nurse instead.
