Hi, I’m considering doing some further education and was looking at a Professional Diploma from UCD but I was wondering if there is any point in doing one of these as they are not recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications.

I have done two Professional Diplomas with the UCD Academy and found them fine, however they do not carry NFQ credits and so will not count if you are going on to do further academic study, I knew this when doing them.

Thank you for your reply. Did you find the courses interesting and useful?

It depends on what you are studying and what you want to do with the diploma.

Im looking to move back to more administrative work as I have been in retail management for the last number of years and I need something to help me back to that route. I have recently completed two qqi courses but feel I need more, one in supervisory management and team leadership and one in training needs identification and design.

I have heard positives things about some Prof Diplomas, particularly from people who have been out of education for many years, but it is confusing, they should be on the QQI/NFQ - at level 7 or 8 or whatever, what is the point of the framework when significant players in Irish Education (UCD) are running courses, not on the National Framework. I am sure it would be beneficial if a student knew it was worth 1 or 2 modules in a PG Cert/Diplom/or MA/MSc, surely they would get more business from these students.
