Low spot in the lawn

Howdy folks,

Over the last few years i've noticed a depression in my lawn at the back. It's definitely gotten worse since we moved in 10 years ago. It's about 6 metres in diuameter and and the center is about a foot deeper than the Irest of the lawn. reckon theres a load of rubble left from the builders in the estate down there and maybe it's starting to decpmpose? I don't know ...Anyway I'm excavating a corner for a patio. Would it be ok to just dump soil over the grass and try to level it myself? Any suggestions would be great :)

Fill with soil, something decent on top, leave it slightly proud it will settle , add grass seed add some garden compost over the seed if you feel inclined. Treat weeds with Dicophar ( they may appear..) .. profit ???

should i try compacting the soil as i put it on or is there any need?

You could tamp it down, but it will always settle a bit anyway, but better to have a small depression than a hump, you can always add some soil and rake it in later on, as opposed to digging out a hump.

The soil surface would be better a bit firm, but don't overdo it, the amount of compression you would get by just walking on it (the lawn seeding shuffle) would be enough.
