Do Some People's Heads Get Bigger over Time?

I think few celebrities who this seemed to happen to: Alec Baldwin, John Travolta, Mark Wahlberg, Pete Townshend from The Who, and Kathleen Turner. In the case of someone putting on weight it might be that their head only looks bigger as a result more weight under the chin? And other times it might merely be because their face has got more bloated... like Leonardo DiCaprio. But there are other times when some people's actual heads just seem to get bigger.

But it does seem that sometimes people's actual heads get bigger. Can you think of any celebs who's heads seem to have gotten bigger?

People's skulls do change sightly over time, if they are using steroids/hormones or have a medical condition like acromegaly it is more dramatic e.g Nicolai Valuev or Maurice Tillet (below)

The celebrities you have mentioned just gained weight over the years. Big difference between DiCaprio now and when he was in Titanic. Wahlberg has always been in good shape but just beefed up for certain roles.

Except I'm talking about head size., not body size. If somebody's body got bigger and their head stayed the same, if anything wouldn't that make their head appear smaller?

I found a hat today that I bought on holidays 6 and a half years ago. It’s too tight now. So yes, peoples heads can get bigger over time. 😢

I have noticed this too. Some people develop Paget’s disease of bone, which can affect the skull. That would account for some cases. The chin area gets heavier with age, men develop thicker flesh over face too until they get into their 80s, then their faces begin to really age and shrivel. Another thing, as hair fades on men, their faces appear to grow relatively larger.

People who gain weight often fill out in the face too which may give the appearance that their head has gotten bigger. Do you have any examples where the person hasn't gained weight but their head looks bigger?

Actually Wahlberg has recently gained weight for a new film and looks unrecognisable.

There's still a big weight difference there though. It's not just his face, look at his neck in both of those photos. John Travolta has gained a fair bit of weight over the years too. He was much slimmer in Saturday Night Fever which is a long time ago now.

I'd have pictured the older version of the Wahlberg in 'Fear' to be more like the actor in 'Enough' with J Lo.
