Generator Socket 240v for House

Is this tricky or dangerous in any way for the customer? Even with a manual switch, assume both generator and mains would have to have a manual switch. Is there much to be done by way of certification? What should I expect to pay to have it done? Any info welcome. I've have talked to a couple of electricians already and they won't do it.

The fuse box is at the rear of the house and there's space just outside the wall for a generator. Between storm outages and mooted black outs I'd like to install it and have the option of running a 240v generator to power the essentials.

Their will be no black out related to Supply, only storms or damage to lines, or substations

I see many generators reasonably priced giving 3.4-3.9kva something in that range. If I had internet, TV & lights & fridge/freezer I'd be happy. I have manual off for the heat pump. For once I'm talking the Government at their word about blackouts/brownouts!

It would need a transfer switch to ensure that you were not backfeeding into the supply line - so you select between only mains or only generator supply.

If you do go for this just be careful about what generator you get - easy to end up with a rebadged Chinese machine. Nothing wrong with them per se, just as long as you know their limitations.
