Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Aqualisa Aquastream Replacement

    Hi

Looks like my Aqua Lisa Aquastream power shower is on its last legs, i have it installed since 2010 , so i assume an old model comparing to the Aqualisa range now. Water flow and temperature fine out of it, just high screeching out of the pump/motor now, and when you turn it off sometimes, the water stops, but the motor keeps running , according to engineer, 2-3 things probably about to go , repair bill of around 430 euro.

In terms of buying a new one , anyone know the best value place to buy one ? And can the new one I buy be a direct replacement to what's on the shower wall now without the need to do any butchering with plumbing ?

    Thanks.

The only direct replacement for your shower is another Aqualisa Aquastream. The bad news is that these showers have jumped in price since Brexit. Two years ago I could get these in Ireland for €450. Now You'll be lucky to source one in Ireland for under €700. They are slightly cheaper from UK stores but have absolutely no warranty here in Ireland. Screwfix import the showers themselves from the UK. They bypass the Irish agent. Shower breaks & Irish agent wont pay to have it repaired as they didn't sell it & haven't made a penny from it. Showers that the Irish agent didn't import aren't covered by the UK warranty either. What happens if it breaks is you have to remove it from the wall & return it to Screwfix. Screwfix send it off to be repaired. You then have to install it again at your own cost. They do this for the first 12 months. AN Aquastream bought in Ireland has a 3 years parts & labour warranty. It's well worth paying the extra for one with an Irish warranty.

Personally I'd replace it with a bar mixer with a rain head & dedicated pump or even a Triton Novel SR Silent shower or Mira Vigour. Changing to the Triton will cost €700 to €800 (around the cost of a new Aquastream) supplied & fitted but after that replacements will be half the price of the Aquastream. Aquastreams are now way overpriced for what they are. They aren't worth more than €450/500

Thank you for the good information and advice , will start looking around .

I havnt one clue about fitting a replacement shower , so will get an expert to do it .

Can I ask you on the bar mixer with rain head or the other showers you recommend ,would I have to do much additional plumbing or breaking of wall tiles etc ?

The wall would need to be opened a little for the Triton Novel & Mira Vigour but their footprint would cover this. Triton Novel is silent & 2 year warranty. Mira isn't silent & 12 months warranty. Bar mixer is trickier but might be tackled from the other side of the wall & that side can be plastered. This is easier to patch up than tiles

Thanks again for your opinion and help , I may start looking round and then talk to a plumber , or should I get a shower specialist to tackle it ?

The bathroom tiles are on a plasterboard wall , so don’t want to end up with a botched job/ ugly job needing extra money to tidy it all up .

The aqualisa is working fine at the minute except for the noise when running , have an electric shower in another bathroom , so not major urgent .

Where would you recommend I source the shower ? I am in Drogheda so good range of places around , getting a competent installer the key ! My regular plumber who has always done good work for me should be handy enough I guess to do this for me ?

Get your plumber to price an aquastream at his trade counter. He should be quoted a lower price than you at the same counter

Thanks, will give my plumber a buzz later today and ask him to price one up for me.

Do you think the Triton Novel would be a good alternative in terms of not having huge work/changes to the shower area/tiles/plasterboard wall which backs onto a bedroom ? I agree with you on the Aqualisa prices now and the cost if anything goes wrong, a good alternative to Aqualisa would be my preference , just dont want a plumber/tradesman butchering the current set up and leaving me with ugly finish/increased costs apart from the buying of the shower and installation cost.

Thanks again ! Appreciate your super knowledge.

For the mira the pipes need to be moved slightly but they are on the same side as the aquastream. For the Triton the hot & cold need to be swapped around. These can be swapped inside the wall but possibly in the attic if it was originally plumbed correctly. Your plumber can give better idea after inspecting the job

Thanks again, i will ask him to price the Aqualisa for me, then if not, Triton novel and see what work is involved in that.

    Any updates guys?

I'm in the same boat myself also.. I have an Aqualisa Aquastream which is leaking from the front and has pretty much zero pumping power.

I too was thinking of buying a new Aqualisa Aquastream, purely because it's a straight swap.. My power adaptor for the shower is in the roof space, but Aqualisa told me its the same power adaptor so I won't need to change anything. Same goes for pipe work so its the easiest solution

But the price is the killer.. B&Q used to be around 450-500 for this shower but now its 700, if they even have one in stock

I would love to swap for an alternative pumped shower, just not relishing the prospect of having to rewire and/or move the water pipes feeding the unit :/

Be very careful where you buy your Aquastream. Aqualisa Aquastream showers sold by B&Q, Screwfix, Amazon etc come from the UK. They have a UK only warranty. Aqualisa Aquastream showers that come from the Irish agent (MT Agencies) have a three year parts and labour warranty.

These are a very over rated & over priced shower. The technology hasn't changed in over 20 years in the Aquastream. Personally I think they should be retailing for €400 or €450. At the price charged now I believe they should come with a 5 to 7 years warranty.

You will be able to get a Triton Novel SR Silent Running Thermostatic Power Shower supplied & fitted for the same price you will buy the Aquastream without installation. The Novel has a quieter motor and better quality parts. You can also get a dual rain head for the Novel
