I need to get an implant done, i want to pick the right dentist. Its a shot in the dark at the moment. First question: Periodontists, implantologists which is better or is there any difference?

Any recommendations of where to get an implant? I wont be going abroad and living in the midlands so will likely either stick with whoever in mullingar, would be willing to travel to dublin. Absolute furthest the north.

Think a periodontist is a specialist for gums and anything that involves the bones that support teeth to prevent tooth loss from gum or bone problems. Brother was referred to one for tmj after an accident years ago but no idea if they do general stuff like veneers or crowns and bridge work. I know someone who had an implant done in the Beacon not that long ago, very happy but think it cost a bit.

    ☹️

Yes my gums can be a bit sore and sometimes i need corsdyl mouthwash to calm them down. Perphas a periodontist is the way to go as long as they should be at least as good as the implantologist for doing the actual implant. Is an implantologist a real thing as distinct from a periodontist?

Honestly might be worth picking a practice that looks at all the aspects. I know I'm heading towards implants in the future (baby teeth left with no adult teeth underneath). The place I go to in Dublin have implant specialists, dentists and a couple of other specialities. I know I'm looking at potentially a bone graft for one of the implants but all would be done in house. I actually go there for my standard dental checkups too now. It's Seapoint Clinic in Dublin. Worth a look into.

I had one done, the implant post was fitted by an oral surgeon and the crown by a prosthodontist. Get your gums looked at as soon as possible and make sure you aren't losing bone. Corsdyl is very harsh and stains your teeth, it's meant to be used short term. Try "Kin" mouthwash and possibly their toothpaste.

Don't leave it up to a local dentist find a good clinic that can sort you out, try out their oral hygienist, see if you have a good feeling for the place and take it from there. All my work was done in Dublin, pm me if you want the names.
