@Morby Same as fits and shesty . Most people get over Omicron in a few days and just feel a bit tired for a week or two after .

The fact that you need antibiotics and steroids means that your body has had a stronger inflammatory reaction to the virus and will take longer to settle back to normal, which you will btw . This particular strain does not so far appear to be causing Long Covid which is good news as so many have been infected.

Take your time and give yourself a chance to recover . The more you push it the longer it will take . Some people try to get back to normal activity because they feel a bit better , only to end up back in bed feeling miserable .

I was similar to you after getting it at Christmas . And the only one who was really sick in a family full of Covid ! Had steroids followed by antibiotics a week to 2 weeks after infection but essentially ok 3 weeks later , if a bit tired .

The medication will give you a head start getting over it but the inflammatory effects , aches and pains and tiredness , do take a bit longer .

All the usual stuff , rest , plenty of fluids and taking care to eat well are important as well. Mind yourself .

Background

Doxycycline is often used for treating COVID-19 respiratory symptoms in the community despite an absence of evidence from clinical trials to support its use. We aimed to assess the efficacy of doxycycline to treat suspected COVID-19 in the community among people at high risk of adverse outcomes.

Interpretation

In patients with suspected COVID-19 in the community in the UK, who were at high risk of adverse outcomes, treatment with doxycycline was not associated with clinically meaningful reductions in time to recovery or hospital admissions or deaths related to COVID-19, and should not be used as a routine treatment for COVID-19.

I got it for the first time. Tested positive on an antigen test this afternoon. I’ve felt worse, just a sore throat and a cough so far.

I'm on about day 9 I think, was super unwell (chest, headache, fatigue and coughing) from about day 2...

My wife was also the same but about a day or two ahead of me, did tests again today and she is clear where I am not.. FFS

I feel a whole lot better, not perfect but definitely improved from the weekend of misery.

Didnt sleep right Tue night, knew by Wed afternoon was coming down with something, went home a little early from work-, went to bed and slept for 2 hours then I had the worst most uncomfortable fever like symptoms for the next 12 hours, started to improve Thur, today like the tail end of a cold, and looking forward to my first hot meal since Tue.

feels funny escaping the fcker for 2 years and getting it now, was at Top Gun in a packed cinema last week so its the only place I can think I picked it up but nice to have a bit of protection going into the winter.

Still not feeling too bad here. My cough has eased down today and I no longer have a sore throat. Just some congestion in my sinuses and blocked eustachian tubes.

Tested negative on Saturday after ten days of the poxy illness... Still have a head cold feeling today with sore sinus in particular.

Both myself and wife are surprised how long this is taking to clear up, been 14 days for her and 12 for me and still only running at around 75% / 80%

Also tested positive on Saturday, sore joints, very bad sore throat, cough, hight temperature, all have eased by today but still have a bit of a temperature but not too bad, apatite did not go, either did my taste buds, isolating in room but not too bad so far, hope I'm over the worst, people need to understand that this virus is still out there and take precautions when in crouded places, best of luck and speedy recovery to evetybody

My daughter tested positive today (symptoms started Sunday) for the second time in 4 months. Not as bad this time around, just sore throat, stuffy nose and a headache, so hoping for a quick recovery. And that she doesn't pass it on to the rest of us as we are due to go on holiday in a few weeks. She's a teenager, so quite happy to isolate in her room with tv and computer games.

And here we go again.. don’t know why I even bothered to buy tests and do it. I think the whole country has it. Unless you work for the civil service or HsE it makes no difference. If you aren’t paid for sick leave why would you declare? Everyone around us is sick.. the whole country has some bug, then we get fear monger if about Strep A which is no higher than pre pandemic days- not to send child to school etc..

interesting to note though, in comparison to last time I had it, I feel a lot sicker ( heavier cold, cough) and also more feverish, however I was about to through test into bin after 8 minutes and noticed faint T line. Last time it was quick positive…

Hmm, same as @Abbaesque .Test took over 10 mims to appear and was very faint.My face hurts!It's been lurking for a few days I'd say. I only tested because my back and legs were sore yesterday which I thought was weird.My nose is runnier, my body aches and I have a cough, none of which I had last time round.

Hoping it fecks off quickly, I don't want a repeat of the dragged out recovery process that happened to me last time.

Avoided it for nearly 3 years and tested positive yesterday. Only reason I tested was because my sense of smell went suddenly we were due to visit a newborn and thought it was odd. Line is darker than the control line! No other symptoms other than sense of taste and smell gone and tiredness. No one else in the house has picked it up yet but they all had it back in July.

Glad to get it now than in 2 weeks time but really disappointed to be missing daughter Xmas school play on Wednesday. Chances of a negative test by then are slim.

Tested again yesterday to get a sense was I closer to start or finish - straight up dark red line within seconds.Guess I have a few more days to go so.I won't bother testing again, think I am counting since about last Thursday or so.

Nose is running like mad, headache is peristing although the body aches seem to have gone and I am tired now this afternoon. Hope everyone else feels better soon.

the four of us have the disease for the first time, started with the wife and daughter under the weather with women trouble and a bit of sniffles, then myself being dizzy and lightheaded after doing some work and a few pains and aches. Our other daughter had a bit of a cold from school and so joking on wednesday night daughter said she couldn’t taste the dinner and took the test and was positive. The rest took the test with faint and strong results. From Wednesday night myself and first tested couldn’t sleep for 4 hours of going to bed and some headache and pains in the bones and runny nose. Coming around yesterday and today..

The irony is, if you followed current HSE guidelines, you wouldn't have taken an antigen test and you would be going to your daughter's Xmas play. Odds are, that others attending are unknowingly, positive.

Thanks @Goldengirl .Seem to be a lot better today but it solidly bit me in the a££ last time around day 10, so I am saying nothing for now!!!Will see how it goes.

Had it last week for the second time myself. Tested positive on Saturday the 3rd. I'm not 100% sure on where I picked it up, but I'm pretty confident I picked it up either the previous Tuesday or Wednesday as I had socialised a little on those two days. Started getting a bit congested late Thursday evening, tested negative on Friday but then positive on Saturday. All in all I have to say it was a lot more mild the second time around, and I have been vaccinated three times. The recovery was a hell of a lot quicker too. I was testing negative by Wednesday the 7th, whereas when I had it last year I was still testing positive 10 days after my initial positive test.
