Hi there has anyone had a recent experience with the Probate Office awaiting Grant of Probate and how long did it take? Am buying a house delayed by the selling of another property which is awaiting grant of probate. Feel powerless no information forthcoming on when the grant may take place.

How long is a piece of string territory. It depends on whether a will was in place or not and whether there are any complications with the estate.

Took approximately 12 months in a recent one I was involved in from persons death to grant of administration being issued. Granted, Covid would have slowed things a bit. Was a relatively straightforward one though.

Thanks is there any way of finding out the progress of the application. In the case of a house purchase is it worth pursuing for another 6 months or cut one's losses. The PO will not communicate in any way, it seems very unfair that any organ of the state, ie The Courts Service can behave in such an arrogant manner toward the citizen. In this case seeking the most basic of information, how is the application going?

Is this a personal application for probate ? i.e. not using a solicitor.

If so, ask your solicitor if they could do any better time wise. It will cost you but it might avoid the loss of your intended purchase.

    Good look with it.

A family member of mine had a perosnal probate application recently granted. The process took appromitaley 4-5 months. It was a straight forward application as there was a Will and very small number of benificiaries
