I wouldn't count the young domestic fowl until they are out of their shells on this one. Remember, it is an EU decleration of what is wetland or not and what we decree it to be. If they say Ireland is 80% bog, Dublin will say O Connell St in Dublin is bog if it pleases our EU overlords

Nor does it address the ban on rifle ammo, clay ranges, reloading etc made from lead.

But surely if the ban is zoned rather than general, the 80% + of the country not designated a wetland will still be free to use lead whether it be for game, fowl, rifle, clay shooting etc.?

NARGC statement on this via their FB page.

Please see below from the Irish Independent. It would have been nice to have known that this statement was going to be issued. It seems to be a case of deflection .

The location of the lands covered by this is still unclear. Why haven't NPWS consulted with the key stakeholders? The NARGC has asked for meetings with the Minister for the last 8 months and still, he refuses to meet. Minister Noonan seems to be continuing to push his agenda.

It would be no harm talking to your local TDs on this matter.

Whether or not this red herring of zoning is applied or not.You have to also ask, which manufacturer will still be making lead ammo and who will be importing this to Ireland? Also, this is a dangerously high percentage of 18.7% to have this tip over to 20% for it to become a general ban.

Maybe this factored into their decision? A lot of court cases that could add up to a huge compensation payout?

"If a blanket ban on guns using lead shot had gone ahead, the National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC) warned that decommissioning and replacing over 100,000 guns owned by farmers and landowners could cost €241m. This included an average cost of around €2,000 for a new gun using steel shot instead of lead."
