Offsetting losses against profits when selling shares

I have a number of shares that I have made a loss on. I was thinking of selling them before the end of this year and then offsetting this by selling shares that I have made a profit on so that the total loss for shares 1 is greater or equals the total profit for shares 2. I will then buy more shares with the money I have after selling the shares. If I do this, do I have to declare anything to the tax man?
