    Hi All,

Just wanted some advice on some forestry we own, Forestry details as follows:

    28 years old

    Sitka spruce

    On road side

    Not been thinned since planted

    6.4 hectares/15.8 acres in Leitrim

    Mixed growth quality

Just want to know best place to advertise to sell and what would be a reasonable price?

    Thanks,

    Nightwing

Felling licence will make it easier to sell, a forest road will make it easier to sell, its value is pie in the sky unless someone walks and gives you a valuation. An estate agent could be your best bet.

How about asking someone in the area who has clearfelled in the last year or so - or is in the process of doing so. Could also ask Teagasc. Or some contractor that harvests timber.

At 28 years old it’s not likely ready for clearfell if it was never thinned.

Hnles you are in need of the money then Hold it. Clearfell it. Replant it for the next generation.

Any update on prices at the moment? I heard 15k/acre for properly maintained forest with felling licence

A quick scan of forestrysales.ie & foresttomarket.ie show most plantations range of €3500 to €5000 asking price. Some as high as €10000 and as low as €1400. Some list having a felling in hand or applied for. It shouldn't really effect the value as a license would be forthcoming (eventually). I wouldn't think anyone would purchase forestry with the intention of immediately cutting it down. It's an asset that only appreciates over time (and good management).
