    Hi there.

Just wondering how do you go about drawing down your stamps (PRSI contributions)

I'm not sure what you mean. If you've become unemployed you apply for job seekers benefit, if you have become ill you apply for illness benefit or if you have retired you apply for the contributory pension. Prsi stands for pay related social insurance, you have to have a valid claim its not a fund you can tap into anytime you want.

Well I've recently retired from the military. So it's probably the job seekers benefit.

Just the terminology used is that you are drawing your stamps.

You need to apply for jobseekers then. Either at your local social welfare office or online on mywelfare.ie

Well done on your retirement! The expression “drawing down stamps” has been eradicated now for a good number of years as it no longer applies to anything in particular.

If you are under 66 and you are looking for and available for and fit for full time work then you can apply for Jobseekers Benefit. If you are unfit for work under 66 and your GP agrees then you can apply for Illness Benefit. If you are caring full time for someone who a doctor agrees needs full time care and attention then you can apply for Carers Benefit. Contact your local SW office for advice on which one to pick and to get application form.

Alternatively you can contact your local Citizens Information Centre next Tuesday when they reopen.
