Travel after positive COVID result

My GF has COVID at the minute, got the positive HSE PCR result yesterday.

We are due to go to Budapest in mid January and am slightly confused with the rules.

We both have the COVID passport from the vaccine.

The confusing part is around the test for getting into Ireland. My worry is she will test positive on the 72 hour PCR test while in Budapest.

From the Citizens Information site, they mention that it you have recovered but still test positive, you need a positive PCR between 11 and 180 days.

However it also says you need a negative 72 hour test - how does that work of she is still testing positive ?

Is the 11-180 test irrelevant if we are using the COVID Cert and we just need to test negative for the 72 hour PCR test ?

I hope your girlfriend is doing ok and the symptoms aren't too bad.

I don't know if it applies in your case, but my friend was flying to Portugal after having Covid, and she got a Covid Recovery Cert from the HSE. As far as I know, that stopped her having to do a PCR on the way there, and the way back. So maybe see if your Girlfriend can get a Covid Recovery Cert (once she's recovered obviously).

If she's still testing positive by the time you intend to fly, then you're not travelling no matter what cert you have.

If you test positive you cannot travel period. The airlines will not board you if there is any question of you being refused entry at the other end because you will be deported at their expense and they will be fined for having boarded you.

Isn't it there in your OP. If you are testing positive after recovering from covid then you must show a PCR test that is between 11 and 180 days old AND show a negative antigen test.

My query was really around having both a positive test and negative test. The other answers have provided me what I needed.

48 hour antigen is your only option. For a piece of mind do one at home before you's leave. She may still be positive on a PCR for months.

Once you are both outside the 10 day isolation on the original PCR`.

You can have a positive pcr due to having covid. If you can show that's over 11 days old and can also provide a negative antigen test then you can travel.

Having seen the gate agents dealing with this I'd steer clear from presenting a positive test no matter how old.
