Egypt vs Morocco at 3pm. Morocco have several good players but Egypt have Salah. Looking forward to it.

Who would be Morocco's most high profile players?

Tunisia vs Burkina Faso was blown up 30 seconds early last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Nice 2-1 comeback win for Egypt in extra time. Salah involved in both goals. Expected better from Morocco.

Senegal on the way here. Maybe the most impressive team in the qfs.

Have to say, the standard of play has been fairly shocking. Add to that half empty stadiums, poorly behaved sidelines. poor pitches and the noise of those vuzuvulas (sp?), and it makes for a fairly hard watch. Can't believe Africa are expected to get more places for future World cups

    No peno for me.

Looks like he gets the ball and doesn't touch the player. Can see his arm bounce back and not contact kouyate.

Mane brings it home for Senegal

  • Registered Users Posts: 395 ✭✭mags1962

Some shocking touches, passes and crosses but the pace and physicality in the Senegal vs Burkino Faso match was very good.

    Mane was just class.

    Shots fired.

Don't think that was a smart idea. Looking forward to seeing which team makes the final.

carlos quiroz going mad here on the sideline and gets a red

The quality of this game is embarrassingly poor

Suppose that will provide some drama and excitement... because there has been zero in the first 90...some of the first touches have been dreadful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,198 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Egyptian keeper could be in serious bother if it gets to pens... looks like he's been struggling with mobility for well over an hour at this stage. Will they keep him, or bring on a sub I wonder..

<edit> Nope, guess not, just used their final sub.

Jeeeysus, how'd none of them finish that chance!?

    It is going to penalties.

The way I described it to a friend is that it's as if almost every pass is being hit as hard as possible. So many poor first touches and they look unmanageable, like there's a different ball being used or something. Pitch conditions don't help too much either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Not sure who has the edge. Egypt got through a shootout in the last round but Cameroon have the crowd on their side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,349 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    2 nice peno's so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Poor pen by Moukoudi. Central run-up. Never looked confident.

    Advantage Egypt now.

and no. 2 for cameroon is as bad as it gets

    Egypt reach the final.

Some truly terrible penalties there from Cameroon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,349 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

that 4th from cameroon was even worst than the 2nd, horrific. egypt through to the final

I've seen some crap penalty shootouts in my time, and now I've seen another.

Next 3 fixtures for these lads

    February 2022

Sunday 6th February          Africa Cup of Nations

    Senegal        19:00  Egypt

    March 2022

Wednesday 23rd March    FIFA World Cup African Qualifying

    Egypt            xx:00   Senegal

Tuesday 29th March           FIFA World Cup African Qualifying

    Senegal        xx:00   Egypt

If you gave each country a choice of winning in February or March, I’m thinking that if you are Egypt, the 7-time winners, they might prefer to qualify for the World Cup, but if your Senegal, back again in the final, and twice a loser in the final, that they would really want to add their name to the winners roll (14 countries thus far!) Egypt have never won a game despite being at 3 World Cups, while Senegal have been to the quarter-finals, and been knocked out on “fair play” rules after finishing with the exact same record as Japan in their group in 2018.

Third place play-off was changed to be played today.

    Third Place Play-off Result

    Burkina Faso 3 V 3 Cameroon - AET - Cameroon win on pens 5-3

So what do we all reckon?

Everything screams a Senegal win to me but Egypt have a handy knack of grinding results out...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Senegal XI: E. Mendy; B. Sarr, Koulibaly, Diallo, Ciss; Kouyate, N. Mendy; I. Sarr, I. Gueye, Mane; Diedhiou.

Egypt XI: Abou Ghabal; Ashour, Abdelmonem, Hamdy, Fattoh; Elneny, Fathi, Al-Sulaya; Salah, Mohamed, Marmoush.

I'll go for Senegal to edge it. I expect it will be a close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Mane penalty saved!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,573 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Salah won the mind games there with Mane, made Mane do something he never does, blast it down the middle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,134 ✭✭✭jimwallace197

Egypt remind of the likes of Italy in the Euros & world cup, dont particularly play good football but grind out results, wear the opposition down & either score a lucky extra time winner or on penalties.

Been watching the last few games of the Afcon, Whats the crack with teams playing with so much distance between there own lines,

Nobody pushes up as a team or even drops off as a teams there alwjays seems to be 20 yards between defence and midfeild & then 20 yards between midfeild and forwards, Regardless of if there attacking or defending

Egypt aren't in this game at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,198 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Have still made a few dangerous chances from headers though... they're getting enough chances that they could nick it, despite being by far the inferior team overall... been better as it goes on though.

Hope Senegal can get their breakthrough in the final ten minutes though.

Ciss looks a very good attacking fullback. I see he's playing for Nancy in Ligue 2 - looks a better player than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,198 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

This must be one of the lowest scoring international tournaments of all time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Going to pens now. You'd have to fancy Egypt with their record but I'd like to see Senegal do it.

Yeah, same, been the better team in the tournament, and would love to see them finally get a win here after coming so close in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,372 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

The referee gave up after 20 minutes.

Let everyone foul, dive, act the tosser without an ounce of repercussion.

What's the betting it's Salah or Mane to lose it.
