Need for BSU 3.1 Form for Joint Accounts?

With the death of a joint account holder, is there any need to complete a BSU 3.1 form if the remaining joint account holder is the sole beneficiary in the deceased's will? Or may the joint account holder simply file the notification with the certified copy of the death certificate and a copy of the will naming the executor, who also is the sole beneficiary?

For information on what documents and forms will be needed, please see here. Form BSU 3.1 would be required if you wish to close the account(s) and pay the balance (if the net value of the money held in Bank of Ireland at date of death is up to €35,000).

Thank you; I had read all the Bereavement Brochure with related instructions but still was confused. Since the joint account holder will NOT want to close the account at such time, then I understand that BSU 3.1 won't be needed at all. Thanks for clarifying.

That's correct GearMaven, if they do not want the account closed the form will not be required. The checklist on the link in my previous reply will state what documents or forms are needed for different circumstances.
