Brilliant knock from Sterling a well deserved ton need him to hang around for a 150 though if we're to win. A great effort none the less. Tector is pure class the sky is the limit for him.

This could be close if Ireland don't lose any silly wickets. When I seen NZ score I thought no chance of catching that but there is still hope.

55 needed with 44 balls, 5 wickets down.

Big ask now with Tector gone. 41 off 28 currently.

Dockrell taking it deep. Last 3 overs: 9, 9, 8 without anything spectacular.

    17 off 12 required

4 of 2. Little in to the crease

Lose by 1 run. Harsh on the lads, a run or two away from winning the series, yet lose 3-0.

So close. Could have gone either way. Very disappointing

Sickening an unbelievable effort so proud yet so sick.

Ah devastated to lose once again when it appeared easier to win but you have to proud of that Irish team. Ireland have been hammered on numerous occasions over the past number of years as the standard of international was just too high for them and although the loss will hurt big time, this Ireland team is incredibly competitive.

Harry Tector is a genuine superstar that we have on our hands that could lead this side for years.

Can’t fault the batting much the past few weeks, majority contributed well. Tector is different class.

You’d feel we were maybe a bowler short. Someone to put the brakes on in both close games. Saying that, NZ may as well have been a bowler down with Tickner bowling such dross.

Agree with the bowler short view... was a really quality contest.. in next to perfect conditions.... just ran out of batsmen I felt .. was there for the taking at the end so more disappointed as the win would have meant loads but kudos to everyone for a great chase and performance..

Total of 719 runs scored today, can’t seem to find the record for gross ODI totals in a days play in 50 over games but that surly has to be up there… fantastic entertainment. But gutted regarding the result.

the world of cricket was captivated by the game going by social media but a pity our reputation as near yet so far merchants is taking hold, can’t argue with it.

Match back in 2006 where Australia hit a world record 434 only for it to broken in the chase by South Africa, is miles ahead for most runs in a game.

We are a very good side at the moment and just need another batsmen to come through to take the pressure off Stirling and Tector and another pace option would be welcomed too. Going to be tough now to qualify for the World Cup as a qualifier in Zimbabwe next year is now likely and that will be difficult as only 2 from 10 qualify, but they have to learn from the experiences like today.

Considering the small numbers that play the game in the country compared to other nations, they are really doing brilliantly and that's all we can ask for.

God must curse Irish ☘️ cricket 🏏. Should have won series 2/1 but great sign such a competitive series , onwards and upwards keep developing good young cricketers and ICC can’t keep seeing countries like ireland a nuisance regarding stupid WC qualifiers etc .

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

^^^ ahh thanks for that , couldn’t find it

Harry Tector is 22.. averages 47.10 in ODI cricket, 24 ODI’s and already has several hundreds to his name, 😳😳😳😳😳😳

that is some going, class player. All the potential to go on and put the Morgan’s, Joyce’s, into the also ran stakes.

that record, and 22. Fûck…..he’s beyond good.

A while away but can't wait for the next trip to Malahide

Hard to know what is a good score. Ireland did well but once again let down by the final over and need 174 to win, should really only be 160

Yeah I hope NZ take the foot off the gas for the T20s and we can then also take Afghanistan. Would be good prep for the WC.

Think we might overhaul NZ here. Really going for it.

Stirling gone with a poor shot. Looks gone already. 33/3 after 5. Chasing 174

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,243 ✭✭✭hawley

    Tractor gone now, 37-4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

did well with the ball to limit New Zealand to an average enough total.

then rank average batting sees us lose by 31 runs.

couldn’t watch the entirety of Irelands batting innings but some of the dismissals I’m watching on replay…the lads I think will be disappointed just by the nature of again getting out to what we’re in about 75% of cases, bad shots played to average enough deliveries…

Amazing that this post is almost completely identical for the second game 😂.

I wonder will the penny drop at any stage with the selectors to try some different players?? This batting line up, bar one innings has been very very poor in T20 cricket for 3 years but is still mainly unchanged.

Why not give Doheny a game. He can't do worse than Delaney. Check out Delaneys contributions against full members, he's not even a number 10!!!

    Not looking good at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

I'm looking forward to this batting line up amassing a huge 110 against Zimbabwe in the world cup in October.

  • Registered Users Posts: 74 ✭✭No_Hope_Club

I think this is the t20 world Cup squad barring injury. Batting is a huge concern.

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Yeah it's absolutely the squad. Form will play no part in being picked. Doheny could score 2000 runs between now and then and still be wouldn't get a game.

Why has Tyrone Kane not been given a chance. He's a better player then McCarthy. McCarthy is 29, played 21 T20Is and goes for 9.26 an over. Do the selectors think he'll suddenly turn on that around?

Could Greg/Matt Ford or Ruhan Pretorius do any worse than Delaney at 3. He's 25, played 41 times and not done much, again what are the selectors waiting on!

Could someone like Graham Kennedy or Josh Manley add something. Why are these guys not even being looked at when the team is so poor for so long.

Use the South Africa series to try something new. What have they to lose. This lot will be stuffed anyway!

Bowled out in 13.5 overs in a T20. Scoring 91 runs.

So many of those wickets were just Irish batsmen just sending the ball arial with little or no conviction for simple catches to be taken.
