Is there no one selling Cornish Pasties here anymore

Was looking to find them over the Christmas and none in any shops, not even labels on shelves that might suggest out of stock.

Nothing.

Anyone seen them in any of the larger shops?

Fresh or frozen.

They're actually lovely, be disappointed if they've been pulled. I need to start a group or something to get demand going I think

Cornish pasties were never a good seller in ireland. Not sure why but they never took off.

anecdote - aunt told me she would never eat such an “unhealthy thing”.

People seem to think they are really unhealthy.

Tesco sell them as far as I know, I love them myself but I make my own get ready rolled puff pastry (aldi for a euro) add your cooked mince, onion (and herbs if you want) glaze with egg for a golden brown top, pop them in the oven on 170c for 20 minutes

There's a fast food place in temple bar that sell them over the counter, not sure if they're any good or not.

Whatever you are eating my well be delicious but its not a Cornish pasty, leaving aside that its not made in cornwall. In a proper cornish pasty the filling is put in raw and cooked in the pastry rather than cooked and then added to the pastry.

Made them at home over the Christmas period and they are fuckin delicious

With a traditional and proper Cornish Pastie all the fillings (veg and meat) go in raw. That's wahet makes it different.

Best ones in Ireland are sold in the deli counter in Nolan's supermarket in Clontarf.

Only ever had a Cornish Pasty in the UK, I do like them. Never even thought of looking for them here.

Tesco don't list them online anyway.

There's a distributor in Antrim that does 3 brands. Don't know if they sell to anyone in the Republic. But you could ask them.

Cuisine De France is one of them, but they don't mention CPs on their Irish website at all, so maybe they're not sold to this market.

They are the one bit of UK cuisine that I've properly adopted since absconding over here (well, throw in some proper Ale too). Local butchers sell them frozen, about £3 a pair. I noticed my last purchase was actually a "Beef and Veg Pasty" as opposed to "Cornish" which they definitely were before - has a rule been implemented recently?

I can't say I ever saw much of them when I was back home. Anyway, good luck in the hunt. Maybe I'll start an export business although I can't imagine much of a demand unless they get the actual Cornish ones back in

theres Been a few different brands selling Cornish pastries in ireland (spar, musgraves, Dunne’s) but they’ve never really taken off.

I don't think pasties or savoury pies in general are popular here. I never get one so maybe I'm wrong, but don't remember seeing pies on offer in chip shops

Interesting comments, I'm a baker for a country market, and savoury pastries are really popular.

I would buy a generic pasty or pastry, it would have to be homemade or from a reputable baker.

They are easy to make, you can freeze them raw, partially cooked or fully cooked.

I'm a pastry snob, because I make so much, but Aldi and Lidl have ready rolled pastry, as the man says, Have at it, it could be fun.

I lived cross the road from a Cornish Pasty shop when I lived in the UK. They were always lovely once in a while. Don't think I've ever seen one here. I always try and have one if I'm ever in the UK.

They're seriously delicious but they are gone from the shelves.

Iceland had them but stopped. Tesco had them but they're gone. Never seen them in Dunnes.

As others have suggested I might rustle one up but I'd be worried about putting raw mince in to pastry and hoping it cooks fully inside the protection of the pastry but obviously if that's how they're done then it should work.

I'm not sure either why they never really took off. They're tastier and they're probably healthier than some of the other pastry snacks on offer such as crumbly auld sausage rolls, gravy pies and those awful jambons. I remember getting one from a local baker in the UK and it was divine. Packed with tasty filling and lots of black pepper 😋

Obviously, the butter in the pastry is the unhealthy thing, but I doubt that's the reason they're not popular. They probably just seem too English. 😉

I know I wouldn't like them. I had my first croissant a few weeks ago (at the age of 48!!!) which was exactly as I expected, and I won't be in a hurry to get another. And they are more appealing than a pasty of any denomination!

Live in Cornwall so can confirm.

Mind you if you visit any of the tourists hotspots, most of the people you meet are English who have moved down. Where I live isn't a tourist town so you meet the proper Cornish, who welcome a fellow Celt a lot quicker than they would an English person! (controversial)

But please for the love of the baby jesus, if you ever visit Cornwall, do not go into Greggs to buy a pasty!!

And when you do find a pasty shop, don't order a "cornish pasty", order a "pasty"!!

I think it's because they were only ever sold in Petrol Stations.

I used to buy them in the petrol station in kilternan about 20 years ago.

Never saw them anywhere else and hadn't heard of them before.

Definitely reheats, like all the other "hot' food they sold but delicious on hangover Monday for snacks.

It’s the right amount of pepper that makes a good pasty a GREAT pasty.

You make good points. They probably are a bit too "English". I still like them though. Comfort food. Haggis is not really popular in Ireland either even though it's good stuff. Maybe too Scottish.

The ones from local bakers are amazing but some of the shop bought ones or even the ones you get in the chain pasty shops are pretty poor and it could be that too many people started out with the poor version.

It's a pity because they are essentially a nicer more manageable version of a pie which people do like here. There's a couple of Centra delis in Limerick doing them so they are still round a bit.

Those cold pork pies are awful though. I almost had a nervous breakdown at a beer expo when trying to cheer myself up after having to try loads of warm beer I went for a pie only to find it was at the temperature beer should be at.

Pasties aside most of the time if a product hasn't traveled outside it's locality it's cause it's crap. Billy Connolly does a good bit about how you should be very weary anything someone says "you simply must try the local delicacy"

Haven't had one in years but there's absolutely nothing healthy about them! It's a thick lard based pastry stuffed with stuff, must be laden with saturated fat and calories. Some of the bigger train stations in London have Cornish Pasty stalls that were very good.
