Recommend a good laser jet printer

Got rid of the old inkjet printer, don't use if often, cost feck all and ink kept drying out.

Only use is for basic printing, copying and scanning. Young lad will use it for school, printing tickets etc.. So figured Laserjet was way to go.

Can anyone recommend a reliable machine up to say €200? Obviously you get what you pay for but the cheaper the better.

Cheapest Brother you can find in stock somewhere. All support PCL which means they will work on anything from the 1980s onwards to the future.

Any of their MFC ones with scanners/copiers should also have an ethernet port, decided if you also want wifi.

Check toner prices before you buy. Amazon are usually way cheaper than local unfortunately.

Avoid brands like HP that are living off their reputation and are now blocking third party toners. Samsung are now owned by HP so future printers may not be the value they are now.

I'm in the industry, if you want cheap generic toner without any hassle go with Brother. Good luck actually finding one too, there is feck all stock around last quarter and this one so far.

Not sure about this one but I was in the same boat as yourself. Not printing often enough and ink kept drying out. Got the Brother HL2350 not quite 2 years ago and its absolutely fine.

Brother still use the separate toner and drum setup, which is a tad outdated but for a low volume but even marginally capable user works out great. The printer will likely have died before an irregular user needs a new drum, but it means that generic toner refills cost buttons; and if you ever do need a drum its usually about 60 quid.

With HP etc you buy a unit that contains the toner and a disposable drum. There is less risk of spilling toner but you're wasting quite a lot of kit every time it runs out.

Just don't hockey the toner tubes around when swapping them over and you'll be fine.
