Now..... can he make the most of this chance??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Plenty nice "easy" reds to build up a nice cushion and get his head back in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Ah ffs 🙄

Neil is doing his best to give him a hand 😊.. he'll have to make hay here, or else....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Great plant, considering the distance between the reds!

Ah, lovely to see Barry get the rub off the cloth for once after all the mistakes!

Ah well, worst case scenario sees Barry trailing by 2 come the late session.. Maybe Barry's a nightowl, as much as a hawk 😎,, Should have Angles back on comms too 😊

In the scheme of things Barry doesn't deserve to win and be called a Master with the standard of snooker he plays. The standard has been fairly low in this final but any hope or sign of them being raised fall to Robertson. Some absolute howler positional shots from either player but on averages Robertson looks the more solid player with Hawkins forever falling to unforced errors or the cue ball running away from him.

Can't stand Murphy on comms. Hate his commentary cliche rubbish when he's an active player. "great to see the players get involved with the crowd" type rubbish.

Hmmm, not a great start from Barry.

    Just too many unforced errors.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,933 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

I know it's early enough but I can't really see Robertson losing it from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

"Dare i mention, this is the 5th black"

    😂

    Jaysus, optimistic or what??

Bit early for that given the standard of play so far!

God almighty, some of the advertising on ES is like being transported back to the 70's!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,933 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Very important frame for Barry to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,024 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

He is still hanging on didn’t see first 8 frames. But was told Robertson robbed a few frames. Although I still think keeping the game bitty is Hawkins best chance of making a game of it.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Hawkins making far too many unforced errors, and not grabbing the chances he gets (of which there have been many).

It'll be a miracle if he manages to turn this around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

I feel Hawkins needs to do something fast now, just staying in touch was fine early on but Neil is getting ever closer to the finishing line now and Barry still hasn't really showed much and isn't pressuring him at all really, it's getting fairly comfortable for Robertson now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Jaysus, that miss was a surprise!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,132 ✭✭✭rolling boh

shocking miss will not win at this rate

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

And that's that I think, he'll need major help from Robertson to get back into this now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Barry absolutely HAS to clear up here

This didn't post for me at the time - I'm losing all hope for Barry at this stage!

And... here's another chance - if he doesn't grab this one.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Misses from both now, if Barry can nick this frame he's still in it, but 8-4 is too much imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

The worse Barry gets, the better Neil is getting.

Can't see a way back for him now.

Although, I'd have said that about Neil in the semi, so you never know!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,132 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Hard to see Barry getting back into it now four frames big lead

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,933 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

I think that must be it now, unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,132 ✭✭✭rolling boh

would like Barry to win but was hoping it would go the distance seems unlikely now the way Robertson is playing miracle required now for Barry .

  • Registered Users Posts: 485 ✭✭eric hoone

Pity trump didn't make the final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

He wasn't good enough in the semi.

Hawkins is in the final fair and square.

    Just not his day today.

at least it might have gone the distance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Oh dear......

Mind you, before the match I was fairly even in who I wanted to win, and in fairness Robertson has been fairly impressive in the last few frames.

Given the scrappy nature of the whole match he's strung together a few nice breaks - worthy winner, assuming he gets it over the line (and it'd be some trick if Hawkins stops him!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Some people get stronger and more determined when they see the finishing line, others wilt. Barry just isn’t a winner, doesn’t have mentality, simple as that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,308 ✭✭✭tanko

Trump didn’t make the final because he got too cocky and carried away with himself. There’s a reason that Barry Hawkins has won sod all, he’s just not good enough in the really big matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,504 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Fair play to the girl refereeing that big rowdy audience today. You know Jan Verhaas would command the room but you might think some would take a liberty with her. The girls do a good job overall.

Right that's my virtue signalling quota for 2022.

I'd listen to a loop of her saying "twenty-two" all day long!

Feck sake, if you tried to miss that red, you couldn't

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,132 ✭✭✭rolling boh

well deserved win different level as posted above Barry wilts when the big moments come around .

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,933 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Well done to Robertson. Really disappointed for Barry though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

Disappointed Robertson won. Dislikable character and looks and acts greedy af.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,812 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Have to say I completely disagree!

Not that I know any of them particularly well, but he comes across as very likeable and balanced to me, very gentlemanly.

It might have or it could have been 10-0.

Judd had his chance but didn't take it.

It was always going to be a big ask for Hawkins to win, but I thought he'd give him more trouble and at least put some pressure on him, but in the end it was a cake walk for Robertson, Hawkins must be disappointed, he did nothing in that final.

My wife is from the same town as her, I can't just ask her to say it so need to be more creative, "whats 11 + 11, love?" it's a lovely accent when they speak English and their native tongue is equally lovely.

Great week over all , we only dip in and out of the snooker so we picked a good week to tune in.

On reflection I think the pressure just got too much for Hawkins. He seemed to be doubting himself constantly and double thinking. If that match was not a final it would have been closer IMO.

I feel if Hawkins got over the line in one major it would release a lot of the pressure. Like another poster said it was not as if Hawkins had the chances. He seemed to get in then manage to breakdown in some sort of panicky manner - either lost of position or a careless miss.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,504 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Big difference in the payday for that final. 250k v 100k. Only a few matches a year with that much cash at stake.

Selby speaking out about depression. Good to see and seems its working for him.

Wish the commentators wouldn't keep licking arse of the players. Ken said it's gonna happen, that Barry is going to win one of the major tournaments. Barry is 43 in April. Ronnie, the greatest of all time was declined massively at 43 and was beatable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,647 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

Hawkins is dogged, battles hard and always gives everything. But he'll always just come up short, always has and always will. Just isn't quite good enough, the most limited in talent of all the top players
