how to transfer over from Garage insurance to own Insurance on a car

Someone I know is on a garage insurance and has not been insured on their name for quite a while.

Quotes for insurance under their own name are very expensive which leaves them trapped on business insurance which is also very high.

No credit for their period of accident free driving is being given.

Is there an approach that can be used to get transitioned over on to personal insurance which is affordable in the short term to deliver lower premiums in the long term?

    To clarify a few things:

    • Is this person the owner of the garage or what is their relationship to the policy holder
    • Who owns the car
    • Is the car used for business or private use or both

They are the policy holder. They own the insured vehicle. The business is defunct. The car is used for personal use, not business.

You might get the current insurer to give some discretionary credit in terms of a NCB?

Failing that it's going to be expensive I fear.
