Saorview and FTA satellite on non Saorview approved TV

    Hi all

I'm looking to buy a new TV and there seems to be a good price on a Philips 43 inch from an NI retailer. It's not on the saorview approved list but from reading in other treads once it has an MPEG4 compatible tuner it should work right? Philips seem to have left the Irish market so I'm just double checking..

For what its worth its a Philips 43PUS7556 https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-205615-philips-43pus7556-43-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-tv-freeview-play.aspx

I get the saorview channels on my current (broken samsung) TV from an attic aerial and also a satellite dish (which I haven't connected yet -its run to a different part of the house) so would hope to get the saorview channels and the free to air satellite ones without an extra box. Is this possible with the above TV?

Or are there any good recommendations on a 40-43 inch TV that will allow me to do the above?

Another option is the Panasonic TX-40JX800B https://www.expert.ie/panasonic-40-4k-hdr-smart-tv-tx-40j800b/ which again isn't listed as saorview compatible set but available in several brick and mortar shops around me so surely it can work with saorview.

Since none of the experts have replied, I'll give my opinion. This TV will do all you require, provided the teletext service is not an absolute requirement. I see no mention of MHEG5, so I guess it doesn't work - and that's really all that 'Saorview Approved' means nowadays.

Other than that I know nothing of the current Philips TVs.

@reelingtheyearsin If you're looking to buy a TV from Richer Sounds, it's worth asking them directly any questions you have about it here https://www.boards.ie/categories/richersounds-ie
