    Hi,

    So I'm working in my current job for 8 years in an IT space and whilst I do like it, I was underpaid for my skillset and not really challenged enough so I was looking around, and I've ended up being offered a new job for a company in the UK that would be 95% remote (I'd have to travel a few times a year there basically).

    As is, it's a higher salary and it would give me a more rounded skillset (it'd be a senior consultancy role) but benefits wise it's pretty poor in comparison to my current company (once I add in pension and health insurance differences, there's actually only 2/3k difference financially) and I'd have less annual leave until I'm a few years in the role.

    Career wise, I think it'd be interesting as it helps me get out of the pure technical role I'm in (which I'm good at but I don't really enjoy for long periods of time) and I think it would give me good experience to get into a managerial role in the future.

    Now, I've mentioned to my former manager (we did a bit of a restructuring so I'm only under my current manager for 3 weeks as they split the technical and business side of our function into two teams) to see can I move away from a specialist development role and get more experience as ultimately I'd like to move into management and they said they'd talk about it as managers to see what can be done (I didn't mention I had a job offer).

    What I'm asking here for is just for advice really. Is it worth taking a job with a higher salary and a potential to gain more relevant experience for where I want to get to but ultimately give up a decent bit of benefits (pension, health insurance, sick leave, annual leave etc all way better where I am along with flexi time as I can finish 3.30 as it is) or should I stick where I am and try to gain more experience here, or do I actually tell them I've a job offer and I'll be handing in my notice in order to push hard for what I'd want in my current job (I know this is generally not advised)

    I recently enough (4 months ago) changed jobs and I moved to an organisation where the pay isn't as good. I'm down a good few bob. I took a significant pay cut but I don't care because I can afford it (although I'd rather not have taken a big pay cut), it's a job I'm interested in, there's a good work/life balance and I'll have promotional prospects in a few years. I'm taking some short term pain for long term gain.

    If you are stuck in a rut and can see no progress in your current role, then jump ship. Just be aware that there's no guarantee that things will work out for you in the new role.

    If your company come back to you very quickly with an improved offer with clear progression to a management role, then I'd be inclined to stay.

    Tell them you have an offer and negotiate a better job where you are, or leave. You can move jobs agaon to something better with the better experience.
