Tyrone will be doing well to only have 1 red today.

Utterly stupid by Hampsey. Costello reeled him in by flicking the ball over the fence and got exactly the reaction he was looking for.

We got the win we needed. Cork were awful and we really should have won by more. Butchered several goal chances. Menton coming back was huge for us.

Have to disagree, on a Yellow already and he does that - only himself to blame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭munster87

Was stupid, gave the ref the opportunity to do it, but the opponent throwing the ball away, standing in his line and then throwing himself down like that should be taken into account too imo.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,470 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Yeah, don't understand how anyone can argue. Black card was stonewall as was the yellow.

Dubs setting off fireworks - strange that.

Derry and Roscommon draw, leaving Galway in the box seat at the top of D2.

Derry trailed at half time, but really let the blade down after the break, constant off the ball stuff that dragged Roscommon into a battle that suited them, and a draw probably a fair result in the end.

A really poor refereeing performance, but the GAA need to act on this tactic of wrestling players to the ground off the ball. Happened several times today, at one time 4 Roscommon players dumped head first to the ground off the ball simultaneously. Most incidents resulted in double yellow cards from a ref clearly out of his depth, but someone will get seriously hurt in one of these incidents soon.

Look like they went off on the ground.. idiots!

Terrible second half. Dubs just seeing it out comfortably

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭dobman88

Handy for Dublin in the end as expected after the 1st half. That should be the catalyst for their season to survive relegation and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win Sam

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,120 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Haha 😂 I’m not falling for that. Don’t know what to make of that match great first half. Not much in the second plus Dublin a man up. Think Tyrone lost that rather than Dublin won it to be honest.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭munster87

Tyrone looked a bit better when they went down to 14. A bit more intensity from them. Dublin never had to move up through the gears in the second half though.

Dublin will never be far off Sam any year so yeah it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they won it again this year.

Armagh could go close to an Ulster title the way they’ve looked in the league so far. Not sure if you’d class them as an outsider for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,788 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

    Exactly

Scoring two points in a half where you are a man up for most of it is hardly a catalyst for a championship run.

Tyrone have always struck me a a group that are never really that interested this time of year.

Hampsey acting the hard man cost Tyrone. Dangerous hit off the pitch on concrete with Costello wearing long studs, it would have been like a ice rink. Lads moaning about Costello’s reaction should really look at the stupidity of a seasoned player like Hampsey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,612 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

The Dublin relagation talk may of been a bit premature but never know with the up and down form of there next 2 opponents in Donegal and Monaghan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭quidel7

Daft from Hampsey. Unnecessary and the consequences of a fall on concrete would be serious. Would expect cooler heads from All Ireland champions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭quidel7

Awful reckless carry on. Deserve to be turfed out or more for their idiocy.

Stupid by Hampsey but the moaning is about Costello going down like a sniper took a shot at him.

Johnny Cooper took a worse hit off Barry Cassidy!

Will you go away out of that. Costello should be embarrassed with himself. Gets a little shoulder and he went down like he was shot. Never a yellow card. If lads are getting booked for that then we may forget about it. Its a game for men not bloody pussys. You wouldnt see lads going down like that in the 80s/90s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ArielAtom

Wet concrete in long studs, did you just choose to ignore that fact?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ArielAtom

Billy Big Balls Hampsey got what he deserved. Delighted for him, wasn’t he the instigator of the shite in the tunnel a couple of years ago?

How do you know it was wet? Did you check the concrete 🤔

Are you a Dubs fan by the way? Would you be saying the same thing if it was the other way? I dont care what county they play for i dont think it was ever a yellow card

Your opinion. Mine is Hamsey was stupid at best, reckless could be another description. But the hard man image has to be maintained!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,367 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He was stupid I wouldn't bother arguing with any says that wasn't a red

What Hampsey did was stupid and reckless. I doubt if any player if he has a choice will go down backwards on concrete. At best you will have a site ho!e. It's very easy for someone getting a cracked skull in a situation like that.

What amazes me is the way players get upset over gamesmanship when they would do exactly the same themselves in a similar situation. Stupid by Hampsey if it was a straight red he could have no cribs either.

Did Costello make a bit if a meal of it. Probably but he still had a sore backside. On the other hand in a similar situation s Tyrone player would do exactly the same.

Stupid by Hampsey. Should have been a straight red for dangerous play

careful getting into the nitty gritty about past incidents regarding those two players.

Colm O Rourke is like a man in need of a Lemsip!!

He fair burned Tom Parsons, however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ArielAtom

    The Gooch agrees with me😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭munster87

Did Meath really need to bring the keeper up for the closer range frees today? Doesn’t say much about their forwards. Takes a good bit of time out of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,367 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I know the argument against it is making the free harder will encourage fouls but I really think football should trial a rule where the fouled player has to take the free where applicable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭Treble double

I didn't see any burning, thought Parsons made his point excellently.

Everyone involved with county teams getting paid bar the players who O'Rourke suggests should not be compensated for travelling to all training sessions because they should be doing it for the love of the game.

Maybe O'Rourke should take the lead and provide his bland analysis for RTE for nothing more than just his love if the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,654 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Hahaha, gas stuff altogether. Scully got a black card for obstruction and on the replay you can see the Tyrone lad making a 3 course meal out of it acting like he was shot and holding his face.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭munster87

Or even a shot clock type of rule for a free. Something anyway to avoid the clear slowing down of play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,689 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

The problem with unlimited expenses is that it is virtual pay for play. As well managers can have unlimited sessions. I have more time for the GPA if it instructed all players that it's three sessions a week. At the end of it the GAA Central council pays the piper.

There should be a limit on panels as well. Numbers on panels is getting stupid. The schools of excellence underage are doing serious damage to weaker codes in counties as 2 panels of 25 are now playing the stronger code. By the time these players learn that only 2-3 of any age group might come through they ate too old to adapt to the other code.

Actually ya that's even better. A certain length of time from when the ref says go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭munster87

30 seconds or so limit? A fast keeper might make the 45s!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,367 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Interesting to see how the outfield goalie thing progresses. Personally I think it's a fad but I'm bias as it was always my favourite position on the pitch and feel a bit insulted by the idea.

I completely understand that distribution is key but have always hated this "Pep Guardiola" idea that a keepers ability to take a back pass is more important than his shot stopping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,161 ✭✭✭MacDanger

Jesus, O'Rourke adds nothing whatsoever, it's way past time for himself and Spillane to be shown the door

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,161 ✭✭✭MacDanger

I agree in principle but it shouldn't be up to the players to enforce a limit - it needs to come from HQ or the county board.

For once, I agree with the GPA on this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭Treble double

It's up to the GAA authorities to start enforcing parameters to keep it's amateur status intact.

Limit the number of training sessions/games to 3 a week and enforce it.

Tackle "under the counter payments" to coaches and managers. In fact I think counties should only be allowed to have management from within their own county.

I agree about development squads, a scourge and a total move away from the gaa ethos of play for your club and if good enough be selected for your county.

Set a limit numberof players that can be called into inter county squads and enforce it.

But any session a player is required to attend his expenses have to be taken care of, as far as I can see that's the GPA's case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,367 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I mostly agree but only managers from your own county will be very harsh on weaker counties who we should all want to see grow.

Most hurling and football success stories I can think of from weaker counties involved "foreign" managers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭Treble double

There are plenty of people in every county that are good enough to do the job.

The outside manager became a fad and it was seen as the way to go, for weaker counties and the vultures weren't long circling.

The cult of the manager is a media driven thing. If you haven't good players no matter who the manager is you are not going to be successful.

Jack o Connor was never going to win an All Ireland with Kildare, he probably will with Kerry, all down to the quality of players at his disposal and nothing else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,689 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

How can the GAA enforce parameters. They have set parameters. It's three sessions a week. We saw with the split seasons where players were supposed to be released to clubs in April. County boards and team management arranged ''team holidays'' another name for group training abroad.

It's up to players to set parameters just like Cork players going on strike during the early noughties. The GAA can only set parameters, every team manager and dare I say players will look for every edge in there hunt for the sought after Celtic cross.

You just need to look at last year where the Tyrone management and players seems to have deliberately decided not to get vaccinated to give themselves an edge and then when they got a serious COVID outbreak used that to there advantage.

The GAA can only set parameters, it's up to players to insist on there enforcement. Unlimited checkbooks are not the answer.

Well the players through the GPA are trying to enforce expenses to be paid for every session they attend, in what world is that unreasonable.

The question is, who is driving the number of sessions. Is it the players? Is it management? Or is it the drive to get a competitive edge by both.

Then the question is who has the overall power to cap the number of sessions nationwide and enforce it? Surely thats the responsibility of the powers that be in the GAA.
