    Hi was wondering if anyone would be able to help me solve the following question;

    Find the value(s) of α for which the following system has no solution:

    x+y+z=1

    2x + 3y =3

    y + αz =4

    the fourth variable has me confused.

    Solve between the first 2 equations to eliminate the x which gives y-2z=1. When you solve this with y+az=4 you can see that a=-2 gives no solution.
