Medical procedure follow up

My GP referred me to the hospital for some tests last year after some rounds of sickness. I was on a waiting list since then but I was called a few weeks ago. I was never sick before so I don't know the workings of hospitals or medicals or follow up appointments. Biopsies were taken too.

How do I find out more details from the procedures. I got a list of findings on discharge but no follow up?

Does the GP phone me when they get reports to discuss findings or do I need to phone them? I'm anxious to know more about the findings.

Any report should be sent to your GP. Call them and ask. If anything theyll be able to send you in the right direction.

Firstly, the results will go back to the consultant who treated you in hospital. The consultant should then send a letter to your GP and possibly cc you on it with the results.

Depending on how long ago, and what the test was there's a chance results aren't back yet. Some results can take 6-8 weeks to be reported, then they have to be posted to the hospital, then they get added to the consultant's paper work for them to look through. So that would add a bit of delay.

If it's been more than 6 weeks there's no harm calling the consultant's secretary to ask. A follow up might not be arranged unless the consultant needs to see you back for more treatment. Results/summary should be sent to your GP regardless.

I was a year trying to find results from a test.

went to my GP months after having heard nothing , he had no results but said he’d email the hospital and get back , he never did get back…gee thanks.

a year later I was scheduled for the same test to see what if any improvements and I asked the doctor then in the Mater… to be given the previous years results, she looked them up, the test was fine, within the parameters to recover fully, health improving but I had known that formally I’d have spent a lot less time worrying…

I was billed before a medical professional would tell me the level of disease that's in me. I threw the bill into the back of a press and it will stay there until I get answers. It's shocking how you nearly have to beg for results on your own health. If you took an animal to the vet, the vet would keep you more informed.
