I'm in the same boat as you, I was 31 for my medical, she done the measurements said it was fine, then I got told deferred. Now I have to get below the 30 to 29. July is out the window for me aswell. September fingers crossed

Wondering if anyone else is on the same boat as me, done and passed both medical and PFT but haven't got a call for local station meeting. It's been over a month since email saying I passed medical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 conor45

Yeah as long as your below 30 i think you're ok. The application booklet states "non-obese" so anything below 30 should be accepted

Hi all. I have completed everything. Met with my Superintendent a week ago and told me dublin will have my documents on 22/6/23. I'm batch 11. Has anyone heard or got calls to be accepted in for the July intake. Or what's the big hold up ?

    Thanks All

    Hi all,

I did the pct couple months ago and failed bleep with only 8 shuttles to go. I’ve been training consistently since even with a PT. I ran the test last night and only got two more shuttles than the PCT. Any advice? I have resit in July and afraid I’m not going to pass it even with all my effort!

I found that the shimmy technique helped me - quick Google if it and it explains it. When I done the beep test I ran at a steady pace and didn't take notice of the others. Start slow and conserve your energy and begin to pick up pace at around the start of Level 5. I started off being behind all of the people in my group and ended up being the last one running as everyone else in my group failed.

does many actually fail the fitness and if so do you get a chance to repeat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 DconEx2023

You can repeat it and you only repeat the part you failed. If you pass the beep test and sit ups and press ups but fail the obstacle course you only have to come back and repeat the obstacle course. If you fail the beep test but pass the press ups and sit ups you have to repeat all three.

Part A; Beep Test, Sit Ups, Press ups.

    Part B; Obstacle Course.

If you fail either part and pass the other on your second attempt, you can appeal and get a final chance to do it but you gotta repeat the entire day even if you pass either part.

    Well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 User 1234

For exercise and fitness it shouldn't be a problem but during college time you'll have to cover them up and wear the long sleeve uniform top.

How soon after interviews do you hear back results?

Grand and does anyone know who does the medical?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 kamiq22

Does anyone know if there is set timelines for the next intakes, August, October, Jan or Feb for example?

Passed my PCT, have medical next week & going by previous messages interview with Seragent/Super should be within 4-6 weeks of medical then its a waiting game on vetting to be completed.

Im in Batch 11 so had initially been assuming it could be 12 months from now before I would be called to Templemore all going well but seeing the number of people failing the PCT has made me think it could be run through sooner & jumping people higher than me on the OOM based on people having to repeat the PCT & the backlog that will cause.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 osk112

It's hard to know but the only thing I know is that one of the intake groups in Templemore have attestation on 28th July so I believe August be the next one for those that went through all the recruitment process will be getting notified for next intake.

The intakes are usually every 2 months so yes August > October > December or January.

    Best of luck.

Just wondering if anyone has met the inspector/superintendent at their local station? I've been to the pct(must repeat the damn beep test!) but have not met the local senior officer.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 conor45

Got my offer for the July intake.

Any groups set up for it? And does anyone have a list from the college of what we need? They’re slow about sending it and I want to get everything organised.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else has been though this.

I was told I have hearing loss in my left ear and had to go to an ENT specialist. I did and he said there is a bit of hearing loss alright but because I have been living with this for so long he doesn’t see it as an issue. Just wondering has anyone been rejected for this?

I went for my medical Monday and was shocked for them to tell me the exact same thing. The Doctor who done my medical said its so minimal that she doesn't see it being a problem. Im waiting to hear back from Garda HR now

I was in a similar situation, as soon as I got to 29 I went to my own GP and got a letter with all my measurements and details sent from there to occupational health, roughly 3 weeks after I got word from occupational health that I was signed off medically

    Hi folks,

I recently received an email from the Appointments Office (HRPD.GardaTrainee.Info@garda.ie) stating that they are awaiting the completion of my suitability checks. However, the email did not provide specific details regarding what outstanding items or documents are required. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on the typical or common outstanding items or documents requested during suitability checks by the Appointments Office. I'm looking to gain a better understanding of what might be causing the delay.Thank you in advance for any insights or information you can provide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 g_or97

If they needed additional info they’d contact you and ask for it. Just seems to take an awful long time and nothing you can do to hurry it up. Two months after submitting mine I got a call about a typo which was on the first page, so presuming they hadn’t even started my vetting until shortly before I got that call. Ridiculous considering the lack of numbers into the intakes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Grace259

Does anyone know how the medicals are done, are they done by our GP or is it occupational health in the Garda HQ? Is it a private company?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭PCO2019

    1. Hearing Test: An examination to evaluate the applicant's auditory function.

    2. Urine Test: A sample is analysed to assess overall health and detect potential underlying medical conditions.

    3. Eye Test: An evaluation of visual acuity and other eye-related parameters.

    4. Blood Pressure: Measurement of blood pressure levels to assess cardiovascular health.

    5. BMI Calculation: A calculation based on an individual's height and weight to evaluate body mass index, an important indicator of overall health.

Additionally, it is crucial for applicants to provide a comprehensive and honest medical history, including any current medications or treatments they are undergoing. This information aids in accurately assessing an applicant's health status.

The tests are conducted in either Limerick, Galway or Dublin.
