They say refer to the candidate handbook which says between 18.5 & 25 but that can be unrealistic. They don't give you a max ir target they just say healthy bmi but if you get it below 30 it's a good target and will be considered for

Ah I see , sure a bit of heft is no harm, provided you can run well.

In many ways I like the sheer ineptitude being displayed for the public and new recruits to see.

It's exactly what you can expect when you get in. The college is mostly non operational staff with little knowledge of how we actually work. Some very very good people in the place but also a lot of people that simple couldn't handle the real parts of the job or bullies. Students are easy targets

Then you will come out and realise that management are the same. Some very good officers from time to time and that's great, while it lasts. They will be gone soon enough and be replaced by another career wanker who long ago stopped being a police officer. He will give the illusion of change just to get promoted and your carcass easily stepped over if needs be.

Then there's the public sector version of efficiency, accountability and service. It's soul destroying if you let it. Two people, looking at two computer screens, talking to each other on two phones..... doing what used to be done by the first person on his own in half the time. That's efficiency.

Refusing to issue real guidelines and ignoring awkward questions, then nailing the mule when he doesn't follow the guidelines but also if he does because they aren't actually realistic or accurate or helpful. That's accountability. If you complain and lodge a grievance, guess who decides if it was fair? The same superior or his mate!

Having 5 gardai. Sending the one Garda to respond and investigate all crimes, having a second doing secretary work for the super, having a third to call in a week later as community policing but not actually dealing with any calls, having a fourth call in as a victim support but forbidden to actually investigate anything and having a fifth to make sure the investigating officer updates his investigation notes by copying and pasting pointless comments that make no sense. That's service.

So yeah anyway, they should be able to plan phases months in advance but they don't, they should be able to give plenty of notice, but they can't. It's now mid September and heaven forbid anyone has a job, family or travel commitments in the future because they sure as **** aren't going to give you enough notice of your starting date or even why it's dragging so long......

Is Occupational Health someone you had to get in contact with regarding the process of your Medical results? I competed my medical with CHI, Corporate Health Ireland

Just got an email response about this:

“We have not received your medical report (generally expect to take 10 weeks before it’s returned from the Chief Medical Officer but can take longer) & your background checks are ongoing.

We cannot give a specific timeline, each application is taken on a case by case basis and are unique in completion times.

Should all facets of your application be successful, we will contact you with an intake date.”

Got my offer there the other day really felt like I had been forgotten about. I passed everything medical back and stuff early last December. Last nine months calling every week just getting the same “background check” answer. Don’t throw the towel in the call will come

If anyone is driving from North Dublin and has a spare seat in lieu of petrol and coffee money, pm me please

Only got the call the other day for an offer and you finished everything early last December. Wow that is shocking, were there issues with the medical/background check or something? That seems way worse in comparison to other people's progress. Can I ask what Batch you are? October intake for you I presume?

    Hi,

I got my meeting with my local sergeant on Wednesday. Does anybody have any advice?

Also, is this near the end of the recruitment process?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 g_or97

Sergeant meeting is quite informal, literally only looks over your form B and makes sure it’s filled in correctly. That was my experience anyway.

you’ll also have a meeting with a superintendent at some point after your sgt meeting. This is a bit more formal and is to get a sense of your character so as they can recommend you for the role. This is the end of the recruitment process but not nearly the end.. vetting will likely take an unknown number of months. Good luck

    Anyone get any offers recently?

Got no updates. Just that my background checks are "still ongoing" and that they haven't received my Medical results yet from the Chief Medical Offer. Other than that, radio silence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 shaneos436

Can anyone provide a rough estimate as to when they received an offer from receiving confirmation that their medical was satisfactory?

Got my offer today for October 16th after applying march 2022 and having everything done since start of the year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 denmiester

When you sent the email accepting the offer did you get a response of any kind? I didn't so just hope they got it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 Conor123456

Didn’t email them yet they told me take the weekend and think about it going in this batch or next one,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 Conor123456

Any one know if it’s different for people that have kids doing the Garda college ? Like doe you have to stay there Monday to Friday or can you skip off home early on a Friday or anything like this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 JM7215

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 osk112

Yes the weekends are free from classes for students to head home as for now

The next intake commences on the 16-10-23 and on the 23-12-23 it will be week 10/11, will the college close for a few days, a week or two weeks ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 osk112

Good question I was thinking about that recently because of christmas/new years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 Conor123456

Does anyone know the time off for Xmas ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭bobbyD1978

You get public holidays when in training so you will only go down Tuesday night that week

    Hey guys,

Just got an email regarding my Medical Assessment saying "additional information is required prior to making a final decision on your medical fitness for recruitment", and basically that "an opticians or eye specialist report is requested" – has anyone else experienced this or gotten this email? Is it a good or bad sign? Or did any of you have any issues after submitting the optician's report or was everything else fine and they allowed you to move on with the training process?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 hoops67

I got this same email. Getting the opticians report is essentially confirming that you failed the eyesight requirement, unless you are very borderline which is in and around -1.5. If your prescription is any more than -1.5 your options are to get laser eye surgery or you won’t get into the guards. I got laser in the end and it was the best thing I ever did. It was quite expensive but well worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 g_or97

I got that too, the opticians report said I had 20/20 vision and got an email a week or two later saying I’d passed the medical.

Oh, how did the opticians report say you’d 20/20 vision if you originally failed on your eye test during the medical assessment??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 g_or97

Not sure tbh but they never actually said I failed the test. Just got the same message as you. Could have just needed clarification or further tests, I did feel that my eye test on the day didn’t go great. When I went to the opticians my tests were all perfect though.

I am just joining this thread as i could use some advice. i had to repeat the physical tests and i signed up for campaign 2023/24 in case i failed. i passed all the Pct and had my medical assessment in August 29th but still getting the same Spiel medical results not back yet. in the mean time i have gotten a date for my PCT again for campaign 2023/24 and not sure if i should go or will it just delay the first application for this campaign? anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 emmak123

I’d say just stick with the 2022/2023 campaign because your basically at the same stage your medical will come back takes about 8 weeks. I know it’s frustrating but just be patient.

I'd ring up about it if I were you, very unusual you got a second date for your PCT if you've already passed. Ring them and explain your situation, they picked up straight away for me when I had some queries. They'll take you off the wrong email list and put you back on the right one.

    Howdy,

I met my sergeant about two weeks ago and am just waiting for the last of my vetting to be done before I guess I have the interview with the Superintendent.

Does anybody know how long it usually takes after the Sergeant meeting before meeting the Superintendent?

I know I won’t make the October start date but was wondering what is next start date after if anybody knows or can roughly predict?

Time frame is different for everyone, I have everything done and past since march 22 and only made Octobers intake this year so from my experience I’d say you have a long road ahead of waiting, think next intake is January think it’s every 11 weeks ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 osk112

Ya January is the next after October probably like 1st Jan or week after start for intake. For meetings it is random for every station I had my inspector and sergeant meeting in same week and I waited longer for super but not that long.

It is a long wait for background so need to have patience fingers crossed for next years intake it is sad to think that I applied in March 2022 and still in process and probably still until 2024.

Hope for good news never know when the call is going to come in.

@hoops67 The same for me. I decided to do laser surgery as well. Which type of surgery is requested , PRK or Lasik? or it doesn't matter? They did pass you after surgery is done ? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Mattata95

No, the reason being is I applied for both campaigns because the first time I failed my pct was the end date to apply for 2023/24 so I did. And because I flew through the checks and tests I'm in two campaigns at the same time because I was told that was okay now I'm thinking did that slow my whole application down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 hoops67

optilase Recommended PRK but I went with Lasik instead and the guards accept both they don’t even ask. Yes they passed me 6 weeks post surgery
