The ICON 18z has shifted the low north compared to the 12z but it is far enough south as to allow for near countrywide heavy snow. The core of the severe winds is mostly kept offshore but still windy enough, especially in exposed coasts but very strong winds still penetrating further inland at times, especially in the south and east. I'd take this over the windstorm, fingers crossed it's correct even though we know it's not.

Met Éireann even saying its gonna be a very windy if not stormy few days ahead especially Thursday night into Friday, I can see maybe a red warning for kerry, Cork Waterford and Wexford going by current models

The criteria are easily met for snow provided the track is correct. The occlusion will be snow fest territory but for most of us we need the track a little further south.

ICON still bent on the more southerly track

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

This is great. A blizzard and a storm after the most boring Winter on record. Better buy all the snow gear then. They'd hardly put maps like them and take them away again. That would be sacrilege.

Oh have to buy bread too coz everyone knows the only way to survive a blizzard is to have a sandwich.

The 18z is a reminder of what could go wrong still!

Subtle downgrades on both wind and wintry potential! As ever more runs needed

Unfortunately this is what happens to most potentially interesting events. It would've been funny to see a blizzard this winter because it would be completely out of place both in terms of wind and snow.

We are looking at a possible red warning for Donegal on Wednesday night early Thursday morning. Dudley is going to pack a punch across the west, northwest and north with damaging gusts. Followed by a potential stormy and snowy spell less than 24hrs later which could leave people with out power for some time.

Saturday has potential for a snow to rain event too but we know what that will come to 😂 . If the Friday and Saturday snowfalls came off then that would be the most random snowy spell that I can remember, especially considering that it only began showing at about 5 days out.

At least Dudley is completely missing Sligo (it actually could) as winds are strong Westerly.

The jet is actually so active that anything could happen from nothing to everything. It's all now cast.

I have to drive to Dublin Airport Saturday morning so its money on after a non eventful Winter we will get a Blizzard and bucket load of snow. Seriously though its nice to have some weather to talk this Winter.

Is it time to raid the shops for Brennans bread and milk yet?

Sligo also looks set to see rather strong gusts. Wouldn't say its missing it now.

Gusting to 48 mph currently in Galway and rain was this expected

It has indeed turned into a blustery night in Galway..

Anyone know of any webcam feeds from coastlines etc showing the weather, there used to be one in salthill but it's ages since it was online

ECM 18Z has brought the winds further S on Fri so giving a bigger dump of snow.

Plenty of twists and turns to come yet and a baby named Dudley, what if it's a girl 🤔( best of luck! )

It's not really bad until Theresa Mannion is standing on the prom at Salthill.

We are moving more in the blizzard type condition direction this morning than the local flooding one.

The models just inching events a bit further south generally bringing a greater proportion of the country in to the snow zone.

Getting interesting. Let's see where we end up by this evening.

    Interesting 00z run:

It hangs around for much of the country for the morning rush hour before a rapid thaw sets in across everything south of the M4/M6.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,668 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

I'd focus on the trend for now. Could do with things a smidgen further south again. Models broadly on the right track just not quite there yet.😬

Certainly looks like a good chance of snowfall to the northwest of the low centre Thursday night/Friday morning. Good upper dynamics in place causing mass uplift and cooling of the air column. Strong thermal gradient in place, so some will get snow while others get rain.

Latest upper air soundings from NE Canada overnight show a frigid airmass in place, while just offshore, a ship's sounding showed a 21-degree difference in 850-hPa temperature in a short distance. This is the birth zone of Dudley.

Well that's handy. Got stuck in Boston for a day the other week for a snow storm, sitting in Dublin Airport now reading this on the way to Holland, due to land back 9pm ish on Thursday... hopefully it'll let me land and drive home, it can snow all it likes after that!
