As well as asking you questions you refuse to answer because it will involve criticism of NATO, I also asked you to find a pro-Putin sentence or word typed by me onto these boards. You didn't do that either but just projected some bile onto me.

You are in fevered NATO protection mode, you are not alone. Which is why it's unwise for us to be making decisions on joining.

Now either put up the pro Putin comments or stop lying about me. Criticising NATO is NOT support for Putin.

You poor deluded craythur. All of those democratic nations the poster listed only exist as going concerns free from fascistic Kremlin influence and irredentism by dint of their NATO membership. They don't exist on Kremlin goodwill, because behind those walls, there is no goodwill for EU sponsored democracy and multilateralism.

If you landed in Prague or Tallin tomorrow and tried to float your mad nonsense to the average punter, you'd be sent back to Dublin Airport with your tail between your legs with a lot to think about.

You’re either with us or against us is the attitude of this man. Lots of em crawl out from the rafters when there is a war on, they find it exhilarating

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

It's not with the protection of EU democracies and their security let me tell you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

And weren't you one of the posters that disappeared from the other thread after vomming nonsense that the war would never happen?

    Scarlet for you

This is well worth a watch if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Interesting angle on the topic, and the historical context of NATO as it relates to current events is very well put together.

Seems Zelensky is having trouble getting answers to the 'why is Ukraine not already in NATO' question too.

Nothing like fake socialist clowns to miss the point when a flowering democracy gets invaded by a fascist on a conquest bender.

The Kwangtung Army or Mussolinis blackshirts could kick their door in and these rubes would sit them down for tea if the troops spun them a yarn about Pentagon baddies.

Wouldn't be the first time. Plenty of people on the left got duped by fascism the first time round in the 30s. Our own GB Shaw spent a good deal of that decade with a chubby for Mussolini and his blackshirts.

Intellectually, elements of the left is on life support with this war. A sorry sorry sight.

In what way do they play games with peoples lives?

The German language has a word for the likes of him, Putinversteher (Eng: Putin understander). Those on the far-left and far-right who for years have maintained that Putin just needs some understanding and love.

They'll furrow their brow and make some of the right noises when he does something outrageous to the world peace like invade Georgia, annex a part of a sovereign country or assassinate a defector in the streets of Berlin or London - however ultimately, they circle back to that they "understand his motives". Big fans of the mealy-mouthed tut-tutting followed by a big BUT, much like some of the contributors here.

Often are reflexively anti-NATO despite the organisation keeping the country out of the sh*t during the Cold War and being part of the architecture that rehabilitated the country from Nazism. Even the Die Linke, the most predominant far-left party in Germany had an absolutely barmy proposition prior to the last election: dismantling NATO, and get this, swapping out the US for Russia.

All are now scurrying like rats abandoning their position to save face after the invasion of Ukraine. Elements of the AfD, which had members far too close to the Kremlin if not outright beneficiaries of Kremlin patronage, are jumping overboard.

Zelensky nails it. Dangling the carrot of membership knowing they would not be allowed join even in their darkest hour. Playing geo-political games with an unstable dictator = playing with lives.

Coveney over plamásing and sweet talking to try and get them to vote for us? Will you stop...now you want people to forget the history.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Francie, you don't have a bean about history, you abuse the discipline. You're a classic revisionist and merchant of disinformation.

The really sad thing is you haven't copped yet how far you've fallen and how radioactive your posts will look from a distance of a year or more from now. I'll be here to remind you, it won't be pretty and you won't live the apologism down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Hold the door lads, has Francie had a Damascene moment? Could it be he's actually pro-NATO or is he still dancing on the head of a pin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,872 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

right now we are kind of having our cake and eating it too. and lets be honest, we're not really neutral.

pretty sure the RAF can defend our airspace if necessary. like that russian plane a few years back that was carrying a live warhead. the RAF was scrambled to escort away cos we dont have the capabilities.

is it time to join nato? i dunno, we are so entrenched now there's prob no other logical outcome. would it pass a referendum, i doubt it.

Another brave veteran of the war against the microbes. What a hero you are. Did you celebrate when the Dutch riot police shot protestors dead last year?

I was told that mush-heads like you would be gone when covid was gone - the train of scapegoating, accusations, hysteria was supposed to grind to a halt. It doesn't work that way of course.

Will you deal with traitors personally or does someone else take care of that? They're 'scurrying like rats' yes trap them in their ratholes comrade!

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,704 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Because you didn't happen to mention him in the list of Putinversteher. There were plenty quite able to ignore Crimea and 2014 etc when it suited them.

Of course because your real issue is a distaste for the left you ignore that. Got your number.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

What are you prattling on about Coveney? Are you...do you actually think...I'm a FG voter 🤣 Ah Francie sweet summer child, god bless your naive heart.

Francie, I'm a lifelong supporter of the left and I recognise cranks on that wing of the political spectrum who offer up apologies for murderers and autocrats when I see one. And you're a textbook case.

You fond of the braindead in the AfD yourself? Scurrying like rats is the right way to put it. They made even bigger clowns of themselves than normal trying to retreat from their decades-long Putin fetishism, same for the Kremlin jockstrap sniffers in Die Linke.

If you're proficient in German and follow their political media, it's an entertaining watch. More than a few Moscow Micks to go around except they're trying to bury their associations in the last month.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,704 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

I mentioned him because he is somebody who has now done a volte face as many have right across the political spectrum. No other reason...you mentioned FG.

You don't like it, that's obvious...I wonder why.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

I'll entertain you for one post only. When has Coveney expressed regard or provided cover for Putin? Go on Francie, what in the actual raspberries are you on about?

Because you've made a bizarre grandstand here about Coveney out of the blue, and no one has a bean what you're on about.

You're also trying to make some sort of weird case I'm a FG voter/supporter. McFly, I have nothing to do with that party and you know it. So what are you on about unless you're having a mental health episode from getting shellacked on this thread.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,704 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

When have I expressed regard for Putin? Answer = Never, yet it is ok for you to project on to me.

Coveney went looking for a vote...you wouldn't do that if you had serious objections to what the people/person you were asking, had done. That act imo would put you on the list of Putin enablers.

Yet you leave the likes of Coveney out of your diatribes against certain lists of people and invent stuff about them no doubt, as you have about me.

Not hard Yurt to work you out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,857 ✭✭✭growleaves

I'm not familiar with German politics. They should have known better than to embrace Putin, if that's what they did.

It doesn't follow that anyone with a heterodox opinion is a crypto-Putinist waiting to be unmasked.

I've seen some posters get schooled in the past, but the filleting and roasting of Francie here is something to behold.

A filleting of Olympic levels this is....

Poor Francie doesn't know how or when to stop. :)

The fact you have to ask this shows you know very little about Irish history but are quick to go down the 'Up da Ra' route. Like most online keyboard warriors these days.

That bloke is basically just hurling personal abuse/accusations at him and running from any qs/flaws being exposed in his rethoric

An interesting decend in maddness and futility it may be,but a filleting it simply isnt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,406 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

    Hilarious isn't it.

One of the biggest goalpost shifting I've seen in a long long time.

Here Blaaz, unlike the snaking regarders, I've been absolutely open, NATO is an essential good for the European peace, and has long been a thorn in the side of sh*tbags like Putin and his bizzare Beebop and Rocksteady weirdo apologists in democratic Europe who would be happy to see it torn down for no other reason other than nihilism.

I'm grateful for the long European peace that grew and flourished under the NATO security umbrella, and both you and I grew up in a wealthy Ireland in large part thanks to it. You can live in denial of that fact, but you ought to wise up that new NATO accession states are very satisfied indeed that they enjoy security guarantees against a Russia that is losing the plot and wants to dial the clock back to a time where they were under Moscow's thumb.

I don't know how individuals in this thread ended up in a place in their lives where they're acting like low-rent George Galloways trying to pin the blame for a disgusting war on the organization that prevents a wider conflagration of it, and refuse to pin 100% of the blame where it belongs, with the fascist that has chained himself to railings in the Kremlin holding the nuclear button.

This rot in some elements of the political left in Europe has been there for a long time, and it's coming to a head now. If it wasn't such a serious situation, it would be a funnier endeavor to watch them writhe and squirm as they try to get out of the situation they've found themselves in. They've been played like fiddles and have only two options left open to them:

1: Admit they were used and look like idiots

2: Double down and continue their moral and intellectual collapse

If they take option 1, they might in time rehabilitate themselves. If option 2, f*ck em, they'll be pilloried as long as the internet exists.
