Parking at home is easy: heavy chain; ground anchor; u-lock; disc lock with alarm; rain cover...

But how do you lock up when you're out? I had a top box on my last bike, so carried a chain in it... The new box doesn't have that luxury... Carry a disc lock in my pocket? Is that enough? Carry a backpack with a u-lock in it? Does anyone leave the bike parked in public without and extra lock?

Also aware that I don't want to fall over and impale myself on the lock I'm carrying...

If it was just a day trip I would try find some supervised parking and use a alarmed disc lock

When I went back to the office for a few weeks I bought an extra heavy chain and lock and locked it to a signpost

If I had a decent bike I probably would not bring it in to town as it is a kip

You could park up in a nice side street somewhere in the burbs and finish the journey by bus or something

The GS I'm happy to just throw a disc lock on the front and use the steering lock.

The bikes too heavy to be qucikly lifted, plus it has an immobilizer and Alarm.

The DR I'd use a chain with in town as at 160kg its too easy to just be lifted into a Van.

A friend of mine bought one of these. Dad uses them on his bikes too, theire pretty neat and you can make up a rig to hold them onto the frame in a safe position

Buy a tail pack or tank bag and put a chain into that. Granted you'll have a bag to carry around but at least your bike will be more secure if you can lock it to something. IIRC they recommend carrying heavy objects in a tank bag as it's closer to the CoG.

If you are only using a disc lock I'd try to find some way of attaching it to the bike for transport. Not good to have it in your pocket if you fall off as you said.

Yes But the point I was trying to make was most locks can be easily broken even so called Sold Secure and Thatcham Approved were easily broken in Almax tests

So you are probably better off with multiple locks tp try and deter someone

Thats Fair! tbh Angle grinder will eventually beat most locks, or linkages.

I've also seen a friends bike with the brake disc Cut, just sliced a chunk out to remove the disc lock.

Attaching a lock to a bike for transport is something I've been trying to figure out lately. I have a disc lock that came with a little bag/pouch, and it had a strap on the back of it, with a bit of velcro (kinda like ye olde phone cases that'd connect to your pants belt loop).

I was fairly confident the whole purpose of it was to strap it to the bike, so you'd always have the lock with you, but couldn't figure out a way to actually attach it. I generally have a backpack with me wherever I go, anyway, but still..
