Jobseekers still being paid

Good morning all on this miserable wet Friday!

A quick question, my partner returned to work a month ago, they had been moved to jobseekers away from the covid payment last December.

My partner did the online jobseekers payment cancellation twice and yet they are still paying to our account.

Neither of us have time to go into the welfare office as we both work, it's also mission impossible to get them on the phone.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I know alot of people would think it's a blessing in disguise but we certainly don't. My concern is that they will make out my partner is purposely getting paid jobseekers and working 4 days. I've kept screenshots of the cancellation.

It will eventually be corrected and any overpayment will be deducted from his wages over the course of a few months via an increase in tax, until it is paid in full.

OP, the best advice I can give is to get your partner to contact your local intero centre or email the department directly.

You'll be notified of any over payments in writing and given instructions on how to pay it back. The department are quite flexible with regard to how people pay back over payments.

There have been a number of reports of PUP closure requests done through mywelfare not being picked up for weeks, can't say for sure if it's common re Jobseekers payment.

Really? I thought they lowered tax credits or something like that which lowered the amount you get. I am open to correction but I was sure that's what happened when I received an extra couple of weeks JSA

Hi there, no an over payment is an entirely separate issue to lowered TFA as a mechanism to clear tax liability from PUP payment.

The OP has since moved to a jobseekers payment and as they've returned to work and despite trying to close the claim, they are being over paid by the department in error.

So it's an overpayment on a Jobseekers payment , not a PUP over payment tax liability issue if I'm making sense.

OP shouldn't be too concerned and will be given options to pay any over payments back. They've done the right thing, its just a systems issue .

I'd still advise making direct contact, email or phone, they'll be able to check when the request to close payment was made through mywelfare .

No that definitely didn’t happen. That would be an illegal deduction from your wages.
